Samen stoppen we de geïmporteerde ontbossing Geen afbeeldingen? Webversie >>   Hallo, Wist je dat er elke 15 seconden een voetbalveld aan Amazonewoud verdwijnt? De hoofdverantwoordelijke: de mens. De meeste bosbranden in het Amazonegebied zijn aangestoken. De daders branden gigantische gebieden plat, vooral om er vee te houden. Deze verwoestende praktijken worden niet enkel gedoogd maar ook aangemoedigd door de regering van de Braziliaanse president Jair Bolsonaro. In Brazilië lopen de inheemse gemeenschappen voorop in de strijd tegen het ‘anti-milieubeleid’ van de president. De voorbije dagen was er een ongeziene bijeenkomst in de hoofdstad Brasilia, met meer dan 6000 inheemsen die er kwamen protesteren tegen de destructieve plannen van de regering-Bolsonaro. Maar ook wij in Europa hebben boter op het hoofd. De EU is een grote importeur van producten die voortkomen uit recent ontboste gebieden, en draagt dus een grote verantwoordelijkheid. Het beruchte vrijhandelsakkoord tussen de EU en Mercosur zou rampzalige gevolgen hebben voor het klimaat en het milieu. Greenpeace dringt erop aan dat België dit akkoord verwerpt.   Ik steun Greenpeace in zijn acties tegen ontbossing   Het is nog niet te laat. We kunnen het Amazonegebied en de inheemse bevolking nog beschermen. Hoe?  Door het woud de kans te geven om zich te herstellen en weerbaarder te worden tegen branden. Door een grotere rol te geven aan de inheemse gemeenschappen, van oudsher de hoeders van het bos. Door de verantwoordelijken te vervolgen. Door onze overheden onder druk te zetten om de invoer van producten uit ontbossing te stoppen.  Greenpeace zet alles op alles om een einde te maken aan deze ontbossing. Doe een gift en geef ons meer slagkracht. Alleen samen kunnen we de onschatbare biodiversiteit op aarde, het klimaat en inheemse gemeenschappen beschermen.
