What Energy System for XXI Century Europe?

The well-being and correct functioning of the European society in the XXI Century will largely depend on the provision of safe, secure, sustainable and affordable energy.
Energy has always been the circulatory system of every human society, and even more so in the current economic system where energy powers all the growth engines: production and consumption.
Likewise, the energy sector produces the lion's share of man-made greenhouse gas emissions.
Is it possible to have a secure, competitive and decarbonised EU energy system by 2050?
In its Energy Roadmap 2050, the European Commission believes it is possible.
We would like to critically review such statement and explore routes towards secure, clean and sustainable energy in Europe.

Le bien-être et le fonctionnement correct de la société européenne au XXI e siècle dépendront en grande partie de la fourniture d'énergie sûre, sécuritaire, durable et abordable.
L'énergie a toujours été le système circulatoire de toute société humaine, et plus encore dans le système actuel de l'économie où l'énergie potentialise tous les moteurs de croissance: la production et la consommation.
De même, le secteur de l'énergie produit la part du lion des émissions humaines de gaz à effet de serre.
Est-il possible d'avoir un système UE d'énergie sûre, compétitive et décarbonée d'ici 2050?
Dans sa feuille de route de l'énergie 2050, la Commission européenne estime qu'il est possible.
Nous aimerions examiner de façon critique une telle déclaration, et explorer les routes vers une énergie sécurisée, propre et durable en Europe.
