StopG8 International Call-out - UK June 2013

The first trans-national call-out for the StopG8 2013 mobilisation against
the G8 summit next year in UK is now ready. See below. Please spread it.
It still needs translating into more languages though -- and please get in
touch if you can help do that.

STOP G8! UK 8-15 June 2013.

In 2013 the UK will host a summit of the G8 group of nations. As with
previous summits, this gang of state leaders will set the global agenda
for economic, environmental and securitisation policy for the year ahead.

Governments hosting the G8 conference have been forced to host the meeting
in remote rural locations to avoid confrontation. In 2005, for example,
the last time the G8 met in the UK, the summit was held in Gleneagles in
rural Scotland.? This did not deter the tens of thousands of people who
succeeded in protesting, blockading and disrupting the summit meeting.

Keen to avoid a rematch with an increasingly dissenting populous, the UK
authorities have refused to release any official information relating to
the date or venue of the G8 summit 2013. However the Reuters press agency
reports the summit will take place on the 13th and 14th June.

This unprecedented refusal from the government presents us with an
interesting challenge. We need a structure in place that allows us the
flexibility to mobilise quickly and efficiently, wherever and whenever the
G8 is held.

On this basis, a series of G8 planning meetings have agreed the following:

There is to be a week of action against the G8 summit in the UK in June
2013.? Working on the assumption that information from Reuters (G8 summit
13th & 14th June) is correct, actions are scheduled from the 8th to the
15th June 2013. In addition, wherever the summit takes place, there will
be a convergence and welcome point in London. Beyond the G8, we will work
towards rejuvenating and feeding into the global anti-capitalist movement.

We invite you to join us in opposing the G8 and the global abuse of power
that this group represents. You can do this by organizing local actions or
by getting involved in our mass mobilisation here in the UK.

To this end it is our intention to ensure the necessary infrastructure is
in place to achieve our aims. This will include securing accommodation and
convergence spaces, kitchens, legal support, medics and other things
essential to the safety, wellbeing and success of a large mobilisation.

We extend the hand of friendship and solidarity and send an open
invitation to international activists to participate in this mobilisation
and its planning. Further details will be announced as and when they are
made available.

Our resistance must be as transnational as global capitalism
