(en) France, Alternative Libertair #222 - Debate: Prostitution - misunderstandings out (fr)

As part of the festival Equals Equals, held a debate on prostitution to explain two
opposing positions on this issue within the feminist movement.
On a subject that often brings passionate debates and polemics and passions, the
collective festival tried to put in place a mechanism allowing each party to explain its
differences, but also to show its points of agreement. The plateau was formed as follows.
Ga?lle Th?baud member of the group, has ensured the presentation of the evening. The
sociologist Roland Pfefferkorn, author of an article with a search for objectivity
different positions [1], was responsible in his speech to recall a number of factual and
show the complexity of empirical situations. Irene Pereira, author of articles published
in the journal Prostitution and society, presented the arguments in favor of a position
calling for the abolition of prostitution. Malika Amaouche, co-founder of Collective
Rights and prostitution, was responsible for its share of arguments expose justifiants
recognition of professional status for their opening prostitutes social rights.

The debate between the participants and the audience was held in great serenity and mutual
listening. He has no doubt helped to clarify points of divergence, but also points of
agreement. Thus, the two parties agreed on the fact that we should not deny the word of
prostitutes. However, Irene Pereira stressed that inequality in gender relations and
capitalist puts a hint of the consent given by the prostitutes at market exchange.
Similarly, participants in the debate agreed on the fact that there is a strong link
between many situations of prostitution and economic insecurity. Thus, both parties are
unanimous on the fact that the improvement of the basic rights of all members of society
could open the possibility for many women to leave prostitution if they wish. The sticking
point that remains concerns the granting of rights associated with a profession of
prostitute. Such a claim would she provide protection to prostitute es an improvement of
the basic rights of all not offer? This claim may she not extend the liberal legitimacy in
our society transforming everything into commodities including women's sexuality? Here are
some points that are still being debated ...
