What will happen in the world December 18th, 2012
The global day of action against racism and for the rights of
migrants, refugees and displaced people: Migrate to live, no more
deaths!

The global day of action was born during the 5th Global Migration
Forum in Quito, in 2010. The choice of the day is not an accident, it
was decided because on that day the UN signed the Convention of
Migrants Workers’ and Their Families’ Rights, in 1991. By now, any
Western state has ratified this declaration, and even in countries
which ratified it, its implementation
is not always respected. For that reasons the battle for the adoption
of the Convention at the international level remains valid.

The aim of the global day of action is to build and broaden more and
more the unitary space in which can meet and gain more visibility all
actions and battles which are being carried out in the whole world
every day by organizations of immigrants and of who sustains them.

It can happen because there are many people who tireless take the
trouble to continue the battle for the affirmation and the respect of
human rights.
In Morocco the associations of sub-Saharan migrants start to play the
first role and take collective actions in order to respond to racism
and not to experience it again. By doing this, they contribute to
build the Moroccan organized civil society. These activities had its
price in the arrest of one of actions’ organizer, Camara Laye, who has
been arrested for two weeks in base on some reproachful motivations,
and after that set free, but still waiting for sentence december
18th.
In Tunisia, where an entire city stand up in front of the next,
endless tragedy in the Mediterranean Sea. In Chile, where migrants
gather to execute their right to elect and to be elected during
elections. In Peru, where the Primer Congreso Mundial de los Peruanos
en el Exterior will take place. Finally, in Spain, where the battle
for the right to health continues, because the government of Rajoy
denied irregular immigrants access to the health system.

All these actions and any other, which we do not know, can became the
embryo of the Global Movement of Migrants – a necessary movement, due
to the fact that the politics against immigrants become more and more
global. A movement which can create the unity, taking advantage of its
diversity, united by some basis contents that we will decide on
together. A movement, which can become the driving force for a far
spread movement for the respect of human rights for everybody. It is
necessary especially in a situation like we are assisting now, of the
global crisis.

This time, on December 18th, for the second time we will try to unite
all that achievements, highlightening especially the tragedy that
happens on the borders, where thousands of migrants die and disappear

After that we will continue this way, and another event will take
place: the Global Social Forum, which will be organized in Tunis March
26-30th, 2013. During this event, together with other organizations of
migrants and of who supports them we will try to create a space which
can give more visibility and which will help us to undertake
collective actions related to the topic of immigration.

A global day of action for the rights of migrants, refugees and
displace people is possible: this december 18.
