(en) France, Coordination of Anarchist Groups (CGA) IAL #95 - Must die to have papers? (fr)

In Lille, November 2, 2012 to January 14, 2013, undocumented people in struggle and
organized within the Committee for Non-paper ? e ? s 59 (CSP59) have conducted a hunger
strike. 74 days of fasting in winter in harsh conditions. In a large indifference and
ultimately for not much. ---- As we approach the last presidential elections, CSP59 has
initiated a series of occupations to make visible their struggle and push the presidential
candidates to consider their claims: the regularization of all undocumented people. From
January to September 2012, the CSP59 has conducted eight occupations of public buildings
and the headquarters of the UMP. ---- With the election of Fran?ois Hollande, Manuel Valls
becomes interior minister of the government "_gauche_." Anxious to be at the height of his
predecessors UMPistes it work for hunting undocumented ? e ? s and curing procedures
adjustments.

November 2, 2012, one hundred thirty seven undocumented began a hunger strike after the
occupation of the House of Mediation in the city of Lille. They and require regularization
and the CSP59 again become a partner of the prefect of the North (who had ceased to be in
2007, with the appointment by the prefect Sarkozy Can?pa).

In late November, the strikers gather in the Reformed Church of Fives. On December 4, at
the request of the church, and they are ?vacu?.es a hundred cops IFNU in mind, assault
rifle in hand. The strikers too exhausted ? e ? s are made for walking ? e ? s supported
by firefighters, others prayed ? e ? s going on the sidewalk in the rain. Following the
eviction, the CSP application hospitalization strikers to get a checkup and continue their
fast under medical supervision. The aim is also to occupy the public space to the
political authorities of their responsibilities in the event of an accident. As usual, the
CHR de Lille is the game of the prefecture. The strikers are asked ? e ? s leaving
emergencies. Certain ? e ? s spend nights at the hospital in the rain and snow, CRS
barring their access to emergencies. In the following days, the hunger strikers are
dispersed ? e ? s in various hospitals in the region where they are and they also
excluded. This fragmentation makes it difficult coordination between the strikers. Unions,
local committees to support undocumented ? e ? s or Calais No Border lend their support to
the strikers scattered throughout the region. The continuation of the strike, isolated ? e
? s, became even harder.

On December 21, the hunger strikers decided to occupy the St Maurice Church, in the city
center of Lille, close to the shopping streets crowded a few days before Christmas. They
and they are expelled ? e ? s the same evening at the request of the parish. The
undocumented ? e ? s fight then spend the night outside in the rain. An arbor is installed
to house the following days and nights. During the expulsion of the church, two hunger
strikers - designated by police as leaders - were arrested and taken to the detention
center Lesquin. They are deported to Algeria in their 59th day of fasting. When they get
off the plane, they need to be hospitalized. They leave the hospital several weeks later.

To stop their fast strikers are left ? e ? s under the arbor installed on the front of the
church St-Maurice. In previous hunger strikes, the city of Lille had put the health of the
strikers available. This year, she refused. PS mayor justified the refusal of a desire not
to exploit the strike. Is this an admission that, when the government was in control UMP,
the PS mayor Martine Aubry had no qualms about fighting exploit undocumented and did not
provide them with material support to show its opposition to 'UMP_? When these are small ?
e ? s comrades "_socialistes_" pursuing the same domestic policy that carried the right to
power, Aubry can still afford to continue to support the struggle of the CSP ...

Following the installation of the St-Maurice square and facing the general indifference to
hunger strike of a hundred people in a tent in the city center for "_the f?tes_" year-end,
CSP resumed occupations: Local PS, mayor of Lille. Everywhere the same refers to the
prefect of the members of the PS - the government appoints prefects. In Paris, the papacy
is busy to get the support of the Catholic Church towards undocumented ? e ? s struggle,
rather than letting them sleep outside its front doors.

During the strike, demonstrations took place in Lille on Wednesday and Saturday from
almost every week. Saturday, December 22, two cars of CSP75 come to Lille to join the
demonstration in support of the strikers. Everywhere in France, various collectives are
supporting the hunger strike by different actions. In early January, several
demonstrations of solidarity took place in different cities.

The CSP finally managed to get an appointment with the prefecture that after fifty days of
fasting. During this meeting and those that followed, the prefect did but remember the
law. He walked into his press that the records of those on strike were not filed or were
incomplete. Finally she announced as part of the strikers, it would consider their case
"_with bienveillance_." On January 14, the last 38 ? e ? s strikers stopped their fast
without getting regularization.
