(en) Turkey, Tayyip fuck off! (fr)

"Tayyip break up, quit! "Is the slogan addressed to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip
Erdogan that can be heard in the streets of Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Adana and in most
major cities in recent days. ---- But the current problem is not the trees Gezi Park: they
find its source in many previous situations. This is why the left wing extremists,
anarchists, Kemalists, Islamists and individuals from all possible backgrounds marched
side by side in the streets, and for multiple personal reasons but all lead to a desire to
leave the AKP government. ---- See also: Turkish anarchist struggle is Gezi Park in

---- What seems to be now a genuine popular uprising began on May 27 in the parking Gezi,
Taksim Square, in the heart of Istanbul.

Because of a government project to transform the park into a barracks in Ottoman houses a
shopping center, workers began cutting trees Thursday morning. Immediately people were
mobilized and pitched their tents in the park to prevent its destruction. State response
has been swift and for several days the police tried to leave the park occupiers using all
means at their disposal, that is to say, tear gas, rubber bullets, arbitrary arrests etc..
But this brutal repression, far from discouraging the demonstrators, has multiplied. The
dozens of people who initially showed to protect the trees in the park turned into
thousands of people calling for the resignation of the government, not strange?

Not so, this uprising did not come from nowhere, we must remember the many events that
took place in Turkey in recent months, even in recent years.

Already in 2010, in the center of Ankara, the workers of the national company Tekel
tobacco and alcohol were mobilized to defend their places of work and wages. For several
weeks, workers accompanied by a crowd of supporters, were relayed to occupy the center of
the capital, even to begin a hunger strike.

But since late 2012 protests were chained.

October 29, 2012, on the occasion of the National Day and the margins of the official
event, a rally held by the government as illegal, was organized at the initiative of the
opposition party, the Kemalist Republican People's Party (CHP). Thousands of people have
joined the protest against, sulking state festivities, which almost degenerated into a
confrontation.
In November 2012 to obtain the right to use their native language in courts and schools,
10,000 Kurdish political prisoners have went on strike at the end, more than 650 "until
death." An important part of left-wing activists have also begun to fast to provide
symbolic support for prisoners.

In December 2012, following the arbitrary arrest of a student accused of "terrorism"
because he belonged to a left-wing organization, the students of the university in Ankara
ODTU were raised. Clashes with the police lasted several days and nights on campus,
spreading to other universities in the country, and many students were arrested.

On May 2013, demonstrators marching Taksim Square to celebrate Labor Day were surprised by
the ban state to occupy the place of the current work reasons. A huge device police had
been deployed on this occasion, and violent confrontations took place. There were many
injuries and many arrests.

The current protests are not an isolated phenomenon, but just a tidal popular bowl that
lasts a long time.

What people do they have tired? Government! Why?

Because the Erdo?an government multiplies the reforms, huge urban projects, the creation
of new laws, belligerent diplomatic statements, without consulting the people.
Indeed, the Turkish Prime Minister has thus build a new channel parallel to the Bosphorus
to facilitate the passage of ships, a third bridge and a subway to cross the Bosporus, two
new cities to Istanbul at the ends of the side population Istanbul and a huge new mosque
in Taksim Square. It has, moreover, tried to ban abortion, limited the sale of alcohol at
times and specific locations while increasing the price prohibits all terraces downtown,
and he tries to only amend the constitution by referendum to establish a semi-presidential
system in Turkey to replace the parliamentary system we know today. This change of
constitution aims to provide important powers to the President of the Republic, to
Erdo?an, who can not seek re-election as Prime Minister, can continue to control the
country as President.

But there is more.

Since 2007, several major trials based on a special legal system, ad 'hoc, therefore
respecting any known jurisdiction, have the opportunity to be able to stop the AKP senior
military officials, journalists, left-wing activists but also academics and students and
this, without having to justify it. International politics of the AKP, the ruling Justice
and Development Erdo?an also causes the dissatisfaction of the population. Indeed, the
attitude of "Go to War" Erdo?an vis-?-vis Syria concerned because the Turks do not want to
get bogged down in a regional conflict that does not concern them and about which they no
asked their opinion. The recent attack in southern Turkey, in the small town of Reyhanli
(probably organized by a left-wing splinter group in connection with the Syrian
opposition) that killed 52 people awakening the wrath of public opinion which considers
the aggressive policy of the AKP as responsible for this event.
The current problem is not so trees Gezi park, but finds its source in many previous
situations. This is why the left wing extremists, anarchists, Kemalists, Islamists and
individuals from all possible backgrounds marched side by side in the streets, and for
multiple personal reasons but all lead to a desire to leave the AKP government. If Turkey
is accustomed to coups, this is the first time a popular uprising that could evolve into a
revolution takes place. The Arab and the international Occupy movement may have
contributed to the understanding that the Turkish people uprisings yes, he can stand, he
can resist, because governments can fall.

Istanbul a friend agreed to give an interview to explain his vision of current events.

Dilan:
"Hello! We are on the 6th day of revolt. Yesterday a million people marched through the
streets of the Taksim, Be?ikta?, ?i?li, Kad?k?y and Harbiye. Currently, throughout Turkey,
many political resistance groups are formed. But the revolt there is no single political
vision. Kurds, leftists, anarchists, Kemalists, and young people without specific
ideologies appear side-by-side. Journalists do not write how there were dead and wounded.
No television talk events.
Even Recep Tayyip Erdogan does not move a finger.

He wanted to impose on us all at once: He tries to ban alcohol, abortion and the morning
after pill. The people are very angry. This is the first time since the 1980s that
political groups so different ideologies come together in the streets shouting slogan in
unison. No credit is given to provocateurs. The events are very interesting and everyone
agrees to demand the resignation of the government. As everyone involved we can take the
boat that crosses the Bosphorus and free when two vessels passed passengers applaud and
shout for joy. When the police use tear gas each helps people close to him, even if he
does not know. A Taksim found throughout the free distribution of water, food and lemon
juice against the tear gas. This revolt is very important, it may be historical. "
