(en) Britain, North East Anarchists Open letter to the North East movement - OCCUPY, ASSEMBLIES, a NEW MOVEMENT and the ANARCHIST role in this

The economy and the world are in crisis, conflict everywhere, insurrections, rebellions,
and the political elites all around the world are being challenged. Nobody respects the
main political parties or their leaders, they are all at arms lengths, speaking an alien
language, in the pocket of the rich and their corporate media. ---- These are the common
features of our time, with people fighting back using new political ways of organising and
social media. In the UK, like the rest of the world there is a tremendous gulf between the
people, the masses and their rich and powerful rulers. Democracy is a sham, a vote every 5
years is simply a 1 day opinion poll, ran by the rich for the parties of the rich,
including all the right wing (UKIP) & fascist ones. The real business of the rich and
corporations then proceeds for the next 5 years without any signs of democracy.

In these conditions, without any genuine political working class organisations, we have
been left to fester politically, while the multiple crisis get worse. There are signs of
attempts at better politics, but they are mostly half baked, stereotypical, 7 short
sighted. Socialist Alliance, Trade Union & Socialist Coalition, Left Unity, Peoples
Assembly & so on all try to give the appearance of something bigger than they are, whilst
remaining totally unambitious and controlled. The youth and poor of a lot of working class
areas during the riots of 2011 showed the detachment some lefties & anarchists have from
the very people they claim to represent.

We see the crisis - What can we do about it?

There is a chronic lack of ambition, events and politics from anarchists in our region,
despite conditions being the most favourable they are likely to be. SO, the North East
Anarchists are facilitating the first in a series of Anarchist Assemblies, to call out all
those who genuinely want to progress collective anarchist liberation politics in our time.
We are organising this assembly to start the ball rolling. TO be realistic we need to talk
about what we have done so far this year, what we could have done with better
organisation, and how we will organise ourselves better in the future. This will hopefully
lead into the planning of the winter offensive against capitalism.

No topic is off limits, and this is a call for participation, and for those who would like
to present issues and suggestions. THIS is not a typical Lefty event, the BIG NAMES are
not going to tell us what to do and how to think. Meetings are going to be organised so
that there is maximum participation from all, small groups are going to be encouraged so
people do not have to talk in front of everybody - to encourage those younger or shy
brothers and sisters to share their thoughts with us.

5/11 - NOVEMBER 5th DIRECT ACTION

We also are going to launch a suggestion for better joint events across our region, for
more direct action and supporting each other, and also tying in with the Peoples Assembly
concession to anarchist politics, the NOVEMBER 5th Day of resistance.

On November 5th we promote the nationwide politics of resistance to austerity, and we
support all forms that occur, whether it is graffiti, stickers, posters, anonymous masks,
it will be a day of the festival of the oppressed, and we want to see a NATIONWIDE
LOCKDOWN of the capitalist economy everywhere using peaceful civil disobedience. All areas
should kick off around 7.30/8am and block the main arteries in towns and cities, and some
may have to think imaginatively about bringing the railway network to an halt too, but we
are hoping the RMT will do it for us. When we have brought the country to a standstill for
as long as possible we can move onto other events, and finish with a rallies on the
evening to celebrate what we have achieved and to take the struggles further as a 1 day
event is never enough.
