The deaths are 48 children, 32 women and 7 men who died trying to reach Algeria
A group of children, women and some men who tried to get from Niger to Algeria died in the desert of the Sahara this month, possibly of thirst . The bodies of 87 immigrants have been recovered on Wednesday in Nigerien territory only ten kilometers from the border with Algeria , according to several sources told Agence France Presse . Most of the group , 48 are children . In addition there were 32 women and seven men .
The finding comes just weeks after two wrecks with hundreds deaths in the Mediterranean which placed immigration for a few days in the center of the European debate .
Niger 's army spotted a few days ago the bodies of five immigrants who belonged to the same group .According to a security source quoted by the French agency undocumented began their trip in late September and died in early October.
The mayor of Agadez , a town north of Niger , rebuilt the journey of the deceased on Monday told the BBC when they were located the first five bodies. Feltou Rhissa said that two vehicles started from a village north Arlit , with "at least" 60 immigrants. The convoy was heading to the Algerian city of Tamanrassett , located in the Sahara desert and parts of the routes of clandestine immigration .
The mayor said that , when one of the vehicles damaged , some passengers went to search for parts and others scattered in small groups. Days later, some survivors arrived in Arlit and alerted the Army who arrived and first found the five bodies.
Then one NGO worker alerted to France Presse told of what they would find who locate to the group ."There were whole families , including many children and women."
