Melissa Rivers said in a statement Friday that her mother was "receiving the best treatment and care possible." She also thanked Rivers' fans and friends for their support.

Last year, Javed Jaghai made headlines after initiating a constitutional court challenge to Jamaica's 1864 law that bans sex between men.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A former Oklahoma City police officer who sought to become the state's first transgender lawmaker has conceded defeat in the Democratic primary runoff for a seat in the state House of Representatives. Paula Sophia lost the runoff by a razor thin margin of only 22 votes.

DETROIT – Police in Detroit, Mich., have arrested a man who allegedly shot his partner and burned down their house to hide the evidence. The suspect, identified by police as Edwardo Ross, allegedly shot his 42-year-old partner, James Foxhall, in their Detroit home on Aug. 15, then dumped Foxhall's body in the city's Palmer Park.

AN DIEGO, Calif. — A California gay man who is alleged to be HIV positive is accused of intentionally infecting at least two dozen men in and around the San Diego area. Two men say 29-year-old Thomas Guerra infected them with the HIV virus, and one man who spoke to KFMB-TV says he’s speaking out to warn others about the alleged actions of his former partner.

The complaint, filed in District Court, asks the court to declare the non-discrimination ordinance invalid.
