The End of Desire is a piece of acoustic theatre, where composer Ian Wilson exploits a vast range of colours and textures using Mellema’s saxophones, live electronics and a specially-composed soundtrack. Set against an inventive background of video projections designed by Michiel Voet, and directed by Jos van Kan, Mellema delivers a memorable performance of depth and innovation. About the performance (more detailed info here): |
photography: Michiel Voet A key event in the life of saxophonist Ties Mellema gave rise to The End of Desire: a few years ago Ties lost the ability to play saxophone with his right hand in an accident; but with patience and perseverance, and against all the odds, he regained his abilities. With The End of Desire Ties brings a highly personal tribute to the power of music. |
