l'éducation populaire - Popular education: In the margins, the
new wave (fr, it, pt) [machine translation] (a-infos-en@ainfos.ca)
Youth associations, scop who talk about them, researchers who clear, hacker who share
their knowledge, gifted zadistes of their hands ... We are witnessing the emergence of
popular education practices connected to social protest. ----------- In the center of the
landscape of popular education, there are certainly large federations such as the League
of Education, Léo Lagrange, the Francas ... But in the margins emerge in recent years, new
collectives are not satisfied from ---- drift to sociocultural activities rendered
meaningless, and also call for a "popular education policy". ---- Among them, several have
chosen the scop forms (cooperatives and participatory society): The Contrepied
(Ille-et-Vilaine), The gearing (Indre-et-Loire) The storm (Isère) Headwind (Haute-Garonne
) ... For these scop, popular education must offer spaces to tell the world as it is but
as we would like it to be, and exercise a collective will on the way of life. The courses,
meetings - life stories, gesticulées conferences, theater of the oppressed, surveys, games
from problem situations, drive the public debate - are a place for learning the conflict
and provide tools to fight collective.
For their part, the "practitioner-researchers" of Labocoop (Labocoop.org) rethink in the
wake of the philosopher Luc Carton or sociologist Christian Maurel, a popular education
that draws on the sources of the labor movement, based among other things on popular
universities of Paris-VIII and Bordeaux, and the Cooperative University of Paris.
Open source software
In the field of digital practices, collaborative collective emerge under different names:
hacker spaces, Tetaneutral (alternative provider), April (promotion and defense of free
software) ... These are places primarily focused on technical issues, construction of
objects using machinery or mounted invented for the occasion, control of free software,
internet access free from major operators.
One could imagine geeks small groups doing their business in their corner ... Well not at
all: they generally give mission is to be open to non-specialists, somewhat in the
tradition of associations of science education. They are also laboratories of reflection
on open source software, for everyone to reappropriate digital tools, see subvert.
Beyond the emergence of these new collective, popular education has also found a second
youth in struggles spaces such as areas to defend (ZAD) we saw hatch at
Notre-Dame-des-Landes or to Sivens. To withstand the pressure of the authorities to occupy
the field, it initiates the self-construction and self-production. Although these
experiments do not fit into an organizational framework, they fall under one active
educational approach that aims to transform our relationship to the environment and to
give us control tools, whether philosophical or practical .
