A minimum income study was tried in Canada in the 1970s. And also in the 1970s there was a kind of minimum guaranteed income in the [United] States. What was interesting about the one in the [United] States was… or the reason it got killed off was that women started leaving their husbands. And that brings up another argument for basic income which is that it will give independent money in whatever situation they’d be in. And they’d be able to refuse violence and refuse dodgy treatment.
