Dear friends,
"I would be killed by my family and the police would not help." – Amiri, 25.
Imagine if being sent home meant being sent to your death. That’s what Amiri is facing right now. He is a young gay man who fled Tanzania and is seeking asylum in Switzerland.
It’s a crime to be gay in Tanzania. When Amiri's father found out that he loved other men, he tried to kill him. Then the police tried to throw him in jail, so Amiri ran away to Switzerland. But now the Swiss government wants to send him back to Tanzania.
Amiri has just a few days to submit his next appeal. He has found a great lawyer, who could help him win his case to stay in Switzerland. But right now, he can't afford the legal fees. His only hope is if All Out members come together and chip in to cover the costs. Can you make a donation?
CHIP IN
The Swiss government has denied Amiri’s request for asylum, and want to deport him in a few weeks. They don’t believe Amiri that he won’t be safe in Tanzania.
Amiri needs an experienced lawyer to persuade the Swiss authorities that his life is at risk if they deport him. Can you chip in to help him pay for his lawyer? Anything raised beyond the lawyer's fee will go towards All Out’s work to support other lesbian, gay, bi, and trans people like Amiri around the world.
CHIP IN
Amiri’s situation is not unique – other gay and trans people in Tanzania have been persecuted just for being who they are. If we can help Amiri secure asylum, it will also strengthen the cases of other lesbian, gay, bi and trans people who will be in danger if they are sent back home.
In 2012, All Out members donated 60,000 dollars to evacuate gay men from Iraq who needed to leave the country because their lives were at risk. 13 of them were safely resettled. Now we can help protect Amiri from anti-gay attacks in Tanzania.
Thanks for going All Out,
Leandro, Oscar, Sarah, Enrique, Andora, Rose, Lucy, Kate, and the rest of the All Out team
P.S. In two weeks, the Swiss government could deport Amiri to Tanzania, where his father has threatened to kill him and the police want to detain him because he is gay. Amiri needs our help to pay a lawyer to help argue his case for asylum in Switzerland. Will you chip in now? go.allout.org/en/a/amiri-tanzania
