In many of the EU states - France, Belgium, Czech Republic, etc -Â before asking for legal recognition of a change of sex, a person is required to be sterilized.
It’s disgraceful that transgender people are forced to choose between the integrity of their bodies and the right to have a legal recognition of their gender identity. There is no legal basis for this standard, and no medical reason why this should be done. It's simply a case of discrimination.
Denmark and the Netherlands have already changed the legislation that required sterilization. If enough of us put pressure on other EU countries, we can get these laws changed throughout the region.
