Wanted: People who have caught ammonia poisoning through medication!‏

Dear reader,

We are urgently looking for testimonials of people who have caught ammonia poisoning through medication. Of course also medical staff can react in name of the people they treated or the ones still being treated.

Which substances are we talking about?

It is about sodium valproate (unbranded, Convulex®, Depakine®, Propymal®) which is being used for the treatment of various forms of epilepsy. An example: Recently, the ‘Stichting Lareb’ (=Foundation Lareb) received a notification of encephalopathy because of the use of Depakine ®.

In literature, many cases of acute encephalopathy with hyperammonemia while using sodium valproate are described.

We are looking for people who have been victim of this and who have been through one or more of the symptoms described below.

Symptoms

1^st degree insomnia

Impaired concentration

Exaggerated behavior

Tremor

2^nd degree aggravation of insomnia

Disorientation

Loss of sense of time

3^rd degree aggravation of symptoms above

Anxiety

Bizarre behavior

4^th degree unconsciousness

Coma

Absence of personality traits
