Hello Friends –
Let’s face it: 2016 was a pretty terrible year.
It seems like everywhere we turned, insecurities, anger, and intolerance won out over solidarity, community, and love.
The refugee crisis, the Orlando tragedy, the vicious rise of the "alt-right," and the U.S. election of Donald Trump and Mike Pence are just a few of the biggest wounds inflicted on the LGBT community this year.
But progress isn’t a straight line. Our wounds will heal. Battles will be fought in the name of those we’ve lost. And together, we can create real change, as long as we support each other.
We need 2,014 more people to donate before MIDNIGHT tomorrow!
Thanks to the support and action of All Out members around the world, there were some pretty amazing victories in 2016, too:
In February, 2,930 people chipped in enough to keep Eastern Europe's only homeless shelter for LGBT people open when they were closing their doors.
And in July, All Out members fully funded a monumental week of events for Pride Uganda. When one of the events was violently raided by police, All Out members donated in record time enough funds to provide urgently needed medical help and safe housing.
All Out members came together again in November when two teenage girls were arrested in Morocco for kissing and faced up to three years in jail. After you and 103,000 All Out members joined our partner's outcry, the girls were released.
With enough support, these types of victories will continue in 2017 – but only with help from people like you, Luc.
After a year like this one, it may be hard to see, but I still believe that love always wins.
In solidarity,
Matt Beard
Executive Director
