Dear friends,
Taiwan is one of the most LGBT-friendly countries in Asia. But in the eyes of the law, LGBT people like me are still second-class citizens.
That could change in the near future: Taiwan could become the first country in Asia to allow same-sex couples to marry.
We already worked with other organizations to help legislators take the first steps. Now we're waiting for the final vote in Parliament that will make this a reality.
But opponents of equality already launched a massive campaign of lies. They’re well organized and supported by religious groups in the West.
That’s why my colleagues and I at the Taiwan Tongzhi (LGBT) Hotline Association want to launch a massive media campaign to help change hearts and minds.
The vote could happen as soon as April, so we need to get our message out now. By donating today, you’ll help us promote our video on major media outlets to people in far reaches of the country, who might not hear stories of same-sex couples.
There’s some vicious opposition to marriage equality infiltrating our communities. Over 100,000 people marched to protest same-sex marriage a few months ago.
Protesters proclaimed that if marriage equality passes, "Taiwan will become an AIDS island!" and "[it] will lead to marriage, family and the structure of society being completely wiped out."
Even our former Vice President has spoken out against marriage equality, saying it would "disrupt the lives of the majority and an ethical order that has been in place for centuries."
With your help, we can show people that equal marriage is not a threat – it’s simply about love and family.
Thanks for going All Out,
Wayne Lin
