- Trial: Tuesday, March 28, 2017, 9 am, Military courts - ---- HANDS OFF THE KATALIPSEIS
AND THE SOCIAL-TAXIKOUS GAMES ---- "The attempt to crush by force, fear and falsehood to
fight outbreaks are occupations flopped. The recapture guarded by riot Villa Amalias
morning at 7.30 by dozens of militants and fighters, kataxeftelise state repression. Our
brothers who recaptured the Villa Amalias and occupied the headquarters of DIMAR sent
strong signals in many directions: to state that in vain if it hopes to subdue the social
resistance and all struggling people, workers, unemployed youths that nothing is
non-manageable where there is the right and the will to fight, and that the enemy, however
strong it may seem, is not invincible . "

LK37, January 9, 2013

On Tuesday, March 28 tried the 92 arrested for the recapture of Villa Amalias four years
after that morning of January 9, 2013, which was, even temporarily, one of the major
mounds in then wave of repression of occupied game space, while the trial comes at a time
when the state aggression expressed by successive occupations evacuations, the targeting
of the press, announcements prosecuting police orders invasions and fascist attacks on the
ground that forms the official Member tiki propaganda.

Occupations, as an integral part of the self-organized social and class struggles and as a
visible reference points of the anarchist / anti-authoritarian movement are consistently
targeted by the state repression and paramilitary gangs.

At that time , and especially after the social revolution of December '08 neutralization
was the stated goal of political power, in the antiexegertikis campaign of the state,
along with the savage attack in class struggles and the pogroms against refugees and
immigrants. Within this condition hit by the repressive forces in the summer of 2011
occupied areas struggle throughout the country, while in the winter of 2012-13 the state
escalated its attack with the evacuations of Villa Amalias squat in December 2012 and the
occupation Patission & Scaramanga in January 2013, while on January 15, 2013 special
punitive units invaded occupation Lela Karagiannis 37. Faced with that gigantic police and
repressive company developed a number of initiatives and movements wi ase and solidarity
to squats, from political, class, self-organized social structures and collectives. The
highlight of these protests was the solidarity march in squats in January 2013, involving
more than ten thousand demonstrators, which helped elevate that meeting and kinematic
connection of resistors can create a wide front struggle against the government plans. The
surprise move to recapture guarded by riot Villa Amalias on the morning of January 9 of 92
comrades sent a strong message, making clear to state that the occupations are not
delivered, and simultaneously inspired and encouraged those who resist.

A move that was answered by the state to mobilize ELAS body crowd kakourgimatiki
prosecution based koukoulonomo (a special law aimed at criminalization of social and class
resistance and terrorize the struggling, which prosecuted hundreds of militants and
fighters) and enforcement restrictive conditions that were in place until June 2016: ban
on leaving the country and the presence of a statement once a month to local police stations.

From our side, it should be remembered here that during the protests against the special
repressive arsenal of the state in the spring of 2015 spearheaded the hunger strike of the
political prisoners, the initiative of some of us, who were charged with koukoulonomo
after arrests at different times match (among them the recapture of VA) , to proceed to a
public statement disobedience and refusal to comply with the restrictive conditions, it
was a gesture of assistance to the wider conflict with the terrorist fro taltiko status
and solidarity to those who through their struggles come into his sights.

Today , within the environment of intensive political ftochopoiisis and impoverishment of
society, and plunder every inch of land, this repressive attack continues from SYRIZA-ANEL
government, which never representing nothing more than an attempt to renew the legitimacy
of the regime in conditions of generalized systemic crisis initially engaged in outright
slander and targeting those still struggling self-organized and without a guardian from below.

On March 13 evacuated Villa Zografos and housing refugees squat in Alkiviadou Street in
Athens, in police operations which won the praise of the public order minister, heralding
essentially new repressive moves. Simultaneously, defamatory press reports and photographs
of mapping occupations, among them the Lela Karagiannis 37, talking about prosecuting
evacuation orders egklimatopoiontas their political-anarchist nature and the dimension of
practical solidarity to refugees and immigrants. Moreover preceded the summer of 2016 in
Thessaloniki the evacuation of three housing refugees squatting, to lead them in
concentration camps, locked in squalid living conditions and held hostage in verification
processes, sorting and expulsions.

At the same time, in whole neighborhoods of Athens official state gangs, the police
occupation army, gives way to all sorts of para-mafia -mpravous, narkemporous, minions of
megaloepicheirimation- who impose their violent presence and turned against the movement
to seamlessly continue to prey neighborhoods turning them into the manor. So when Exarchia
paves the way for the suppression of the kinematic resistances stood barrier to delivery
of the neighborhood in police-narkomafias while the state cooperation actually confer the
area of New Philadelphia at henchmen shipowner Melissanidis sending numerous squads riot
police to ban march anarchist-anti-authoritarians to reach the occupation Struga, which is
in grip of thugs from February 25.

Within this reality, the message of militancy and determination of the comrades and
comrades who four years ago recaptured the Villa Amalias, insofar as a living legacy of
struggle and a springboard to continue, but also collective experience highlights need
even greater deepening PLATIAS ia and organization at every front of social life, not the
past. It belongs to all the men and women who are fighting today against the state, the
bosses and their lackeys, to all those who through squats, self-organized spaces,
neighborhood assemblies, base unions and collectives policies through syllogikopoiisi,
solidarity and self-organization resistors keep open the way for social and class counter
attack.

Militant - Social self-organization - CLASS SOLIDARITY

NO DELIVERY - NO truce

While the self-proclaimed representatives of Jews and Jews legitimize anti-Arab and
anti-Muslim racism in the name of the defense of the State of Israel, it is salutary that
the French Jewish Union for Peace has published a book in which all racism and anti-
Discriminations are analyzed to be better combated. ---- At a time when the racist and
even the Holocaust denial is becoming increasingly frequent, even Israeli Prime Minister
Netanyahu states that Adolf Hitler "did not intend to exterminate the Jews," but " Expel
them " [1], the book A Jewish Speech Against Racism comes as a ray of light in an ocean of
reactionary horrors and imbecilities. ---- Written by militants of the UJFP (French Jewish
Union for Peace) and edited by Syllepse, this book not only defends Jews victims of
anti-Semitism, but all human beings who are victims of racism, Muslims and Muslims, Jews
and Jews, Blacks, Roma, women, homosexuals, etc., from a perspective of the Estates
General Against Racism.

Although it has been sponsored by the highly-qualified Commissariat General for
Territorial Equality, this book does not share the idea, which is predominantly admitted
in the mainstream media and in government circles, that those who oppose politics Of the
State of Israel are necessarily horrendous anti-Semites. In its historical presentation,
this book has the great merit of recalling that Zionism has not always been a majority
among Jews and Jews. The sponsorship of the Office of the Commissioner makes it easier to
open the doors to schools, mainly to organize discussions around this book and thus more
easily address the youth.

A great number of Jews and Jews, especially before the Second World War, preferred to join
the workers' revolutionary organizations, to overcome anti - Semitism, by fighting for the
universal emancipation of all workers. This was the meaning of the involvement of many
Jews and Jews in communist or anarchist organizations, or in the Bund[2]Socialist, to
which the work of the UJFP devotes a complete page. The Bund, very powerful among the Jews
and Jews of Poland and Russia, considered that immigration to a Jewish state in the Middle
East was tantamount to capitulation to anti-Semites and struggled in Poland and Russia
Jewish cultural rights and for the preservation of Yiddish.[3]

Apartheid

Of course the genocide of Jews and Jews by Nazism is analyzed, but taking into account all
the process that led to it, and in particular the colonization in Africa which served as a
test ban. And there is no question of forgetting the genocide of the Roma, Gypsies and the
massacre of homosexuals by Hitler, and the Arabs and Blacks who were also on the list to
be either annihilated, or To become a slave.

Finally, the book of the UJFP also analyzes the Nakba of 1948, which occurred during the
creation of the State of Israel. For the Palestinians and Palestinians, this term, which
means catastrophe, refers to the expulsion of 750,000 of them and they by Israel. Not to
mention those who have been massacred, especially by far-right Zionist organizations.

The current policy of apartheid towards the Palestinians and Palestinians remaining in
Israel and towards those of the occupied territories stems directly from this Nakba. The
essential elements of racism are explained in this book, which is very well illustrated
and very educational, and every activist and anti-racist activist can find all the
knowledge essential to his struggle, with all the elements to be developed to make it triumph.

[1]This is a public declaration by Netanyahu in October 2015, where he explained that it
was the great mufti of Jerusalem (notorious anti-Semite, and member of the SS) who advised
Hitler to burn the Jews. Serge Klarsfeld called these remarks absurd.

[2]Bund means "union" in Yiddish. (And also in German, a language very close to Yiddish).
The Bund actively participated in the Russian revolutions of 1905 and 1917.

Anarchists are gathering to discuss how we can better organise and fight for a free
society. ---- The Anarchist Gathering 2017 will take place on Sunday, 23nd April, 10am-5pm
in the Teacher's Club (36, Parnell Square West.Dublin 1). ---- Please reply to
activity@wsm.ie to register your interest and/or to suggest ideas for the day. ---- WHY
SHOULD I GO? ---- We are living through very dark times. We see the rise of authoritarian
and far-right political forces, the ongoing defence of white supremacy, patriarchy, and
capitalism, and the threat of global environmental collapse. We also see the ongoing
resistance to oppression and exploitation in Ireland and around the world. We want to
strengthen that resistance and we believe that anarchism offers people the best means of
creating a free society. It is imperative for the anarchist movement on this island to
re-group in order to face into the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

In these conditions,we anarchists of the Workers Solidarity Movement wish to facilitate a
gathering of anarchists in Ireland with the purpose of listening, discussing, and planning
new and more effective ways of organising together. What is the current state of the
anarchist movement? What projects are we working on? How do we provide solidarity to one
another in all kinds of struggles? What is your vision of revolution, and how do we make
it happen, here and now?

The WSM is hosting this discussion, but we do not wish to own it. Past anarchist
gatherings attempted in the UK provided a platform for all kinds of anarchists (affiliated
and unaffiliated) to meet one another, create new friendships and collaborations, and
ignite new, radical projects. We hope for similar outcomes here.

Again, please reply to activity@wsm.ie to register your interest. You are also welcome to
suggest ideas for the day's discussions and/or to volunteer to help out on the day.

In solidarity,

WSM Anarchist Gathering 2017 organising committee.

The fire of rebellion ignited for centuries by Kawa, goes on in flames. Today is the day
of Kawa, the Blacksmith who opposed the emperor tyrant Dehaq and said, "listen to the
palace owner, I came here to fight for justice!". Today is the day of struggle and
rebellion, the day of freedom through resistance. Today is the day to encourage the
rebellion fire against the attempts of genocide, massacres for chemical weapons, forced
migration and assimilation policies in the territory in which we live, freeing the same
fight of justice in the path that Kawa took. Today is Newroz, the New Day¹! ---- As
Devrimci Anarist Faaliyet-DAF (Revolutionary Anarchist Action), we were in the fields to
light the fire of Newroz, the New Day. State politics of denial and destruction will not
extinguish the fire of rebellion nor halt the Halay dance of freedom.

As long as injustice continues, the rebellion will not end, Kawa will have no end.

The pamphlet Migration: A chance (;) For the chapter was written as a result of the
discussions we had in our collective responsibility from February 2015 onwards. The text
was originally presented in a more concise version as their contribution to an
international meeting (summercamp) anti-authoritarian communists and anarchists in the
summer of 2016. The brochure was published in 500 copies in February 2017 by the
proletarian collectivity Underground Tunnel. ---- Immigration, a chance (?) For capital,
the example of Greece and recent refugee crisis ---- Contents ---- WHO ARE IMMIGRANTS /
WHAT ARE THE MIGRANT? 7  ---- Permanently established immigrants (ri) s from the Eastern
Bloc, the Balkans and Asia 8 --- passing / s (transit) migrants (ri) s. 11 --- Subjective

Humanized capitalism and solidarity movement. 33

Games with immigrants. 41

INTRODUCTION

Immigration is a key issue in most advanced capitalist countries of the Western world. The
way the capital trying to control migratory movements corresponding to each mode of
exploitation of labor power that seeks to impose. During the 50 and 60 Keynesianism[1]was
wage adjustment system and the accumulation model and enforcement work discipline was
Fordism[2]. In ruined postwar capitalist world were abundant funds available for
investment. The challenge was economic growth and to achieve the capital exploited million
immigrants (ri) s in the worst possible way. Immigration at that time was strictly
regulated by the very capitalist states on behalf of the bosses who used the cheap labor
power of immigrants (ri) s to drop wages in the name of economic development.

The 70s the labor discipline model changes. The industrial reserve army[3]exhausted, class
struggles erupt in the workplace, social struggles are exacerbated (anti-war movements,
women's movements, minorities etc.) and capital enters playback crisis that lasts until
today. Thus, the permanent and constant presence of workers in a workplace and uniform
response corresponding to the leveling faction side by side on the production line and
favored their collective organization, without this meaning that was not in use at that
stage regular ' divide and conquer "- gave, gradually but permanently, however, the
position of any kind flexible form of work. Each regular division and fragmentation of the
working class adopted by the capitalist class in order to submit the requirements and to
achieve a general reduction of wages.

From that time onwards the border operate as a way of screening immigrants (ri) s and
control of their movement. The type of immigrants (ri) s that are now necessary for
capital is seasonal / s, unskilled / s or niche, but nevertheless definitely feature
needed by the capitalists is to arrive in the destination country illegal / s,
impoverished / s, facing violence and untold suffering and paying extra themselves / s the
often exorbitant cost of moving. So achieve discipline and allegiance to any kind of
working conditions and simultaneously opened the way for the imposition of new flexible
working relations in the whole working class.

However, on the part of immigrants (ri) s, migration is their chance to escape poverty,
war or oppression and claim a share of global wealth accumulated somewhere in the Western
world, and in our case, in Europe. This conflict between, immigrants (PI) values and
capitalist interests sharpen class antagonism and creates the possibility of the emergence
of class struggles.

In Greece the 80 and 90, a capitalist boom era, immigrants (ri) s are desirable / s for
capital, as well as with their cheap wages contribute to profitability, and contribute to
the restructuring of the labor market. With landmark in the 1990s, starting a massive
entrance, is permanently installed in our country a populous immigrant working class,
which is a structural element of the demographic composition. In the last eight years
(since 2009), the situation changed completely. During the recession there is no place for
them / the immigrants (ri) s on the ruined economy of Greece. Initially the state
propaganda of the right fosters anti-immigrant climate and the state organizes the
repression of immigrants (ri) s with expulsions, detention, arrests and torture aimed at
their repulsion from the Greek territory. The Greece at this time converted by the
destination country in transit (transit) immigrants (PI) values. In a second phase in the
spring of 2015 until March 2016 signed the agreement between the EU-Turkey, about
1,000,000 refugees and immigrants (ri) s moved to Europe via Greece (860,000 during 2015
and about 120,000 by signing of the agreement).

The state administration has passed by January 2015 at the hands of capital which left an
unprecedented anti-racist solidarity campaign, at least until the signing of the EU-Turkey
agreement reached to present such movements as "refugee crisis". In this social landscape
constituted a dipole interests:

On the one hand, there is the prospect of immigrants (PI) values. Much of Syrian refugees
who relied on prosecution policy or refugee status, recognized as such and fled to Turkey,
took advantage of the national and evroenosiako law and then looked for a better future in
Europe.

On the other hand, there are the interests of Greek and European capital. The state SYRIZA
charity management of 'refugee' crisis manages what they could not achieve the governments
of the recent past. The local working class not only more consistent with generalized hot
spot conditions imposed on the whole of the ongoing memoranda policies but actually feel
and "gratitude" that is not in position of refugees. He managed to consolidate all the
belief that "foreigners / s" candidates / s proletarians / s can not hope for anything
better than the good will of the state to promote them in aging European labor market[4]to
help it restructure with lower wages.

The social movements that are / ousan the basis of SYRIZA, the far-left organizations and
the majority of the antiauthoritarian space, In line with the desire of immigrants (PI)
values, stood out as claiming their free movement. This served at the same time and the
state goals (Greek and north European) and with precisely this concept is that the state
administration is characterized antiracist. The solidarity movement while seeking to bring
class features in solidarity action and thus to define in relation to charitable
activities, insisting nevertheless sidesteps the fact that the same subjects, immigrants
(ri) s did not see themselves as workers ( ri) s but as individual / s travelers / compas
to "labor paradise" of the north, which was intended to raise with their underpaid sweat
profits of the bosses. On this basis they can not develop common class of local immigrants
and races (ri) s fatal all solidarity movements, aiming to serve the needs and decisions
of immigrants (ri) s / refugees, can only have a humanitarian character . Not stand
against humanitarian solidarity movements, but we think it important to highlight their
limitations and their role in this historical context developed. We recognize the
prevalence of such practices in self-organized movement as a competitive setback compared
with the insurrectionary movements that were adopted in the recent past and we think that
is a direct result of the defeat of the class struggle in the period 2008-2012. Only if
the links are built with immigrants acquire character class and by extension and us-
struggles can create significant cracks in capitalist reality to overall improve our
living conditions, until finally it actually destroyed.

In conclusion, we believe that it is particularly useful for the development of class
competitive movement and for us as a proletarian collectivity, after exploring both the
composition of here the installed permanently immigrant working class and the profile of
the protagonists of the so called "refugee crisis", to present the state management of the
migration issue in recent years and to refer to the class struggles occurring in it.

[1]Redistribution part of the income of the working class in the form of inflated salaries
and social benefits aimed at greater consumption and avoid social discontent and unrest.

[2]Mass production and stability in company profits. Continuous operation of plants with a
detailed division of labor and full-time, permanent and fixed, militarized unskilled labor.

[3]Karl Marx in Capital vol. 1, ch. 23 calls overpopulation unemployed "industrial reserve
army" which is readily available to meet the needs of capital. In the course of Chapter
evolution increased and continuously updated machinery and means of production, thereby
intensifying the work, i.e. absorbing ( "xezoumizontas" says Marx himself) increasingly
working mass, with fewer and fewer workers. With the accumulation of capital, therefore,
the demand for labor on limited, although the numerical strength of the proletariat
generally increases with the development of the capitalist mode of production.
"Accordingly, the working population, producing the same capital accumulation produces
simultaneously increasing extent means that make relatively supernumerary" (R. Marx,
"Chapter", vol. 1, p. 654.). The industrial reserve army as a necessary product of
capitalist accumulation becomes a powerful lever of accumulation kefalaiou.O industrious
overpopulation "is an available industrial reserve army belonging to chapter so perfectly,
as if he had made at his expense." (K. Marx: OD)

[4]According to the OECD tert investigations per capita output will be reduced by 18% in
the European Union and in order to maintain unchanged the aging index required migration
to be 13 million a year, according to the United Nations report in 2000 (Naxakis &

On March 21, 1927, the Shanghai workers' organizations took control of the city. Their
struggle, which is anti-imperialist as well as social, gives formidable hope to the
proletarians of China, subjected to the colonial oppression of foreign powers and to the
feudal domination of the warlords who share the country. ---- Since the revolution of
1911, China has been a republic. But the nationalist government of Sun Yat-sen loses power
as early as 1913 and the country is plagued by "warlords", military leaders who impose
their power on a province, negotiating on a piecemeal basis their support to the central
government of Beijing . The foreign powers (Britain, France, the United States mainly but
also Japan, Germany, Russia until 1917, Austro-Hungarian Empire, etc.) and benefit from it
to increase their presence, extend their colonial rights and concessions in large Cities
of the country. The labor movement is virtually non-existent before the "May 4th Movement".

The Workers' Revival

On May 4, 1919, China learned that the Versailles conference had decided to entrust to
Japan the colonial rights of Germany over Shandong ... while this territory was part of
China's reasons for entering the war on the side Great Britain and France in 1917. A
spontaneous student demonstration gathered more than 3,000 people in Beijing and attacked
several nippophile ministers, including Cao Ru-lin, whose house was burned down. The
student who first crosses the threshold of this house is Kuang Husheng, an anarchist.
Although anarchists are divided into independent groups, they are one of the main
political forces in the country, far behind the nationalist party Guo min dang (GMD) of
Sun Yat-sen[1]. The first known Chinese anarchist groups date back to 1906-1907, One in
Paris around Zhang Jingjiang, Li Shizeng and Wu Zihui, the other in Tokyo around Liu
Shipei and He Zhen. In 1912, Canton became a stronghold of the anarchist movement, which
still hardly touches the proletariat.

In 1919, this vast anti-imperialist movement, initially a student, spread throughout the
country and was followed by anti-Japanese boycotts. He sees the massive intervention of
the working class: anti-Japanese strikes and demonstrations take place under the
benevolent eye of the nationalist bourgeoisie, the chambers of commerce (which go so far
as to finance strikers) and the GMD Canton a government rival to that of Beijing
government part of South China. The GMD is very interested in the arrival of this new
political force which can support it in its struggle against foreign powers and
"militarists", a term that designates warlords as well as the government of Peking,
between them. In a largely rural country, Where modern industries are rare and often
foreign, the emergence of the proletariat on the political scene is accompanied by the
creation of new organizations. The old corporatist associations and guilds that combined
capitalists, managers and workers of a trade or territory are transformed or are replaced
gradually by class organizations, specifically workers[2]. The links remain strong with
poor small craftsmen, street merchants and a good part of the Chinese bourgeoisie opposed
to foreign powers, but the proletariat does not forget its own demands. that combined

poor small craftsmen, street merchants and a good part of the Chinese bourgeoisie opposed

The strikes became more frequent, amplifying a workers' struggle already observed in
1917-18. These conflicts generally have an economic and social motivation but the
anti-imperialist character gives them an additional echo when Western bosses are challenged.

In Changsha, Hunan, the anarchists Pang Ren-quan and Huang Ai initiated the creation in
1920 of the Hunan Workers' Association, the main trade union force which led the strikes
of the years 1920-22, With the first communist groups in the region led by the young Mao
Ze-dong. Huang and Pang were sent by the strikers to negotiate with Governor Zao Heng-ti
on January 17, 1922, following a strike in the provincial cotton plant in Changsha, begun
December 31, 1921, against the decline in new year bonuses. Most of the demands of the
strikers but took the opportunity to have the 2 anarchists, whose heads exposed before a
city gate, decapitated on the spot, and to ban the Association. This, therefore, going
underground, will remain in the hands of the Bolsheviks.

Red wave

Anarchists were among the first to be contacted by the emissary of Soviet Russia, Gregory
Voitinski, who tried to set up a communist party in 1918. Enthusiastically by the Russian
revolution, Chinese anarchists actively collaborated with the "Marxists" Ideological
convictions are often recent and little dogmatic), until 1920-21 when a communist party is
set up on the Bolshevik model.

The Communist Party was established in July 1921 in Shanghai. A year later, there are
1,000 members, plus the 5,000 members of the "socialist youths", while the anarchist
groups total more than 50,000. According to the strategy of the Communist International,
the CCP's priority is to Fight against colonialism and feudalism (represented by the
warlords), allying with the Chinese revolutionary bourgeoisie, ie with the GMD. This
alliance was sealed in September 1923 and by January 1924 the GMD congress accepted double
membership. Many Communists, including Mao Zedong, include the Central Committee[3 ].

A military academy was set up in Huangpu near Canton in 1924 with the direct help of the
USSR to train the cadres of the national revolutionary army in the military techniques but
also in the communism and philosophy of Sun Yat-sen. In this period of workers'
combativeness and alliance with the USSR, the nationalist leader evolved his left-wing
discourse, highlighting his "three principles of the people" defined 20 years before:
democracy, nationalism and social justice By "well-being of the people"). The Chinese
bourgeoisie actually seeks to develop its economic activity against Western competitors
and must for this reason get rid of the instability created by the warlords. It is often
benevolent with the workers' movement.

PCC and GMD are sufficiently influential in the major trade unions (railways, seafarers,
...) for these organizations to convene a national labor conference in Canton on 1 May
1925. 166 trade unions representing 540,000 members are present. Anarchists are
marginalized. The congress takes resolutions against the gong-zei ("brigands du travail",
ie the "yellows"), in which both Hunan anarchists (hostile to the Communist Party) and
corporative Collaboration with employers. A "Pan-Chinese General Syndicate" was created,
the leadership of which was essentially composed of Communists, and immediately joined the
Red Trade Union International.

Shanghai shines

The PCC-GMD alliance divides the anarchists. Some of them, notably former members of the
Paris group, are already actively collaborating with the GMD (some, such as Can Yuanpei,
have even become ministers), others reject any collaboration with the new
nationalist-communist alliance whose objective National liberation does not call into
question the structures of capitalist exploitation. Other anarchists, such as Ba Jin of
Sichuan and Ou Shengbai of Canton, feel that it is impossible to cut themselves off from
the current revolution, from the formidable workers' impetus from 1925.

From May 1925 to April 1927, the strikes were linked and became radicalized. They are
supported by the nationalist authorities in the south of the country, to the point where,
in August 1924, in a conflict with the "merchant volunteers", an employers' militia
founded in Canton in 1923, Cantonese unions create a " Groups, supported by Sun. In
October 1924 the Canton government promulgated a very liberal law to recognize trade
unions. The strike of 12,000 Qingdao cotton workers in Shandong territory (which Japan had
just handed over to China in 1922) in April-May 1925 was suppressed by the Beijing
government. Between 2 and 8 deaths are recorded on May 29th. Japanese cotton plants in
Shanghai (a city under the authority of the Beijing government) are also on strike. On May
15, a Japanese foreman killed a worker during the invasion of a workshop by the strikers.
On 30 May, the police fired at a demonstration that besieged a police station, killing 10
people and injuring more than 150 people. This "movement of 30 May" led to the creation of
a general trade union in Shanghai, which puts more than 150,000 people on strike in a few
weeks (especially in foreign companies) and acquires new means of struggle: a strike
bulletin Entitled "Diary of Blood" is a means of countering imperialist propaganda,
"surveillance sections" protect trade union activities and stop strikebreakers. The
authorities of the foreign concessions proclaim martial law, mobilize infantry
reinforcements and concentrate 26 warships on the Huangpu, the river that crosses the city.

On February 26, 1927, French reinforcements emerged from the concession to assist in the
repression of the insurrection.

A massive solidarity movement across China: 300,000 people demonstrate in Beijing, foreign
banks and businesses are burned in Jiujiang, solidarity strikes are taking place across
the country. Often the Chinese police or the British army shoot, causing several dozen
deaths in a few weeks. It was only at the end of August that work resumed after agreements
on the prohibition of ill-treatment in factories, compensation for the worker killed on 15
May and the partial payment of the days of strikes (by Chinese employers, Happy to
contribute to the economic recovery, not the foreign employers targeted by the strike).
Other movements follow in the Post Office or editing. For revenge,

The gong-zei unions , which have tried in vain to oppose the May 30 movement, have lost
all credibility. Beginning in 1925, class trade unionism, even banned and clandestine,
clearly took over. But the Chinese bourgeoisie began to dread this labor movement,
especially as foreign powers were more open to renegotiating unequal treaties. For a part
of the Chinese bourgeoisie, the anti-imperialist struggle no longer suffices to justify
the alliance with the proletariat. Moreover, the great promoter of this alliance, Sun
Yat-sen, died in March 1925.

South kicks off

In Hong Kong, British territory, the solidarity strike with Shanghai began on June 19,
1925 and quickly spread to the neighboring metropolis of Canton, the seat of the
nationalist government. On June 23, a demonstration was targeted by the British and French
troops of Shamian Island in Canton: 52 dead and more than 100 wounded. The strike goes so
far that even the gong-zei trade unions enter. Hongkong is boycotted, nearly 100,000
Chinese workers leave the city and only the strike committee can give ships special
permission to enter its port. This committee goes so far as to organize a court and a
prison to sanction the merchants who try to break the boycott. The movement lasted until
October 10, 1926, since the departure in July of the "expedition of the north" of the
national revolutionary army made it difficult to maintain such a mobilization economically
prejudicial to a government at war. The strike committee, which had acquired a power as
important as the nationalist government, agrees to sacrifice its struggle against the
imperatives of national unity.

This expedition from the north, directed by Chiang Kai-shek, aims to get rid of the
warlords and the government of Beijing. Chang represents the right wing of the GMD,
hostile to the alliance with the communists. His friends began an intense anti-communist
propaganda within the GMD, led by four former anarchists, Cai Yuanpei, Zhang Jingjiang, Li
Shizeng, Wu Zihui, nicknamed "the 4 elders." Distrustful, the Canton government led by
Wang Jingjei moved to Wuhan, one of the big working-class cities, in January 1927.

In spite of this work of undermining, the trade union movement developed in the provinces
conquered by the Revolutionary Army. The Pan-Chinese General Syndicate reached 3 million
members in 1927, including 2 million craftsmen and shop employees. But in February 1927,
Tchang ceased to pursue the armies of the north which retreated to Beijing: it is oriented
towards Shanghai. Does he want to attack foreign powers whose interests are concentrated
in Shanghai? Or to the general union of Shanghai, which, although clandestine, has just
attempted a new insurrectional strike?

Workers' militias armed themselves to take control of Shanghai in March 1927.
Shanghai is still rising

On February 19, 1927, the general union of Shanghai launched a slogan of a general strike
with traditional demands (wages, trade union rights, paid rest, insurance ...) and
political slogans (support for the army National revolution, civil liberties, popular
government of the city). On the second day, there are already 250,000 strikers. But the
military response of the commander of Shanghai Li Bao-zhang is implacable: on 20 February,
20 trade unionists are decapitated and their heads exposed to crossroads, all gathering is
dispersed, 300 trade unionists are arrested. As the strike faltered, the union finally
issued a clear appeal to the armed insurgency on 22 February. The revolutionary army
arrived 40 km from the city, but Tchang stopped its advance,

But far from giving up, the general union takes stock of its failure and prepares a new
attempt on the Bolshevik model: strengthening trade union discipline, punitive expeditions
against gong-zei , weaponry and increasing the size of the surveillance sections, Massive
dissemination of leaflets and newspapers, negotiations with the street trading
associations and the nationalist bourgeoisie to create a Municipal People's Congress ...

On March 21, the revolutionary army entered the suburbs of the city, and the union called
for a general strike by announcing the imminent arrival of the revolutionary army. The
press evokes 800,000 strikers ... 200,000 more than the union's figures. Surveillance
sections attack police stations, cut off communications and electricity. The next day, 500
workers' militiamen were killed but the unions were masters of the city when the first
division of the revolutionary army entered, disobeying the order of Chiang Kai-shek to
leave once more the trade union movement alone.

What to do with victory?

The popular government envisaged by the trade unionists leaves a large place to the
Chinese bourgeoisie, with a permanent concern not to break the alliance between the
classes within the nationalist movement. This government agrees to satisfy most of the
union demands and as of March 23 the general union gives the order to resume work. This
insurrection, therefore, served only to establish a nationalist government which presented
itself as democratic and liberal. The Communists, in command of the General Syndicate,
remain faithful to their strategy. If the union goes from 76,000 members in January to
821,000 at the end of March, it does not take advantage of this force to attack the
Chinese capitalists, despite the enthusiasm of the strikers. The claims presented in the
next two weeks are limited to hygiene issues in dyeing, premium distribution or the right
to wear the "Sun Yat-sen jacket" (later renamed "Col Mao") at work. This is a directive
given by the union on March 23: avoid any conflict with the merchants.

On April 12, 1927, trade unionists were executed in the streets by the nationalist army.
Chiang can therefore quietly worry about disarming the workers' militias. He carefully
prepares a coup de force by displacing the troops of the revolutionary army who
fraternized with the strikers, recruiting thugs of the "green band" (local mafia),
negotiating the support of the French and British troops, arousing the Creation of a
"general federative association of industry" which could appear as a rival trade union. In
an attempt to disarm the workers' militias, the police provoked clashes on 2 April and 8
April, which increased tension. Across the cities conquered by Tchang, the anti-union
repression becomes violent (targeted assassination, attacks of premises, ...). Unions are
forbidden as soon as they respond. Even the Beijing government is fighting,

The Communists, however, seek not to break the alliance with the bourgeoisie. In Europe,
they continue to support Chiang Kai-shek and Pierre Sémard wrote in L'Humanité on 12 April
1927: "The Kouomintang party will be strong enough to overcome these difficulties and to
pursue the liberating struggle until victory . "

The true face of nationalism

The same day, at 4 am, Mafia troops, armed with "gong" artillery (labor), assisted by
police and military, attack dozens of trade union premises and imprison trade unionists.
The authorities justify the military intervention by conflicts between trade unionists.
Spontaneously rallies are organized in the day in support of the general union. On April
13, the union, again clandestine, called for a general strike, followed closely. More than
100,000 people demonstrated in the workers' suburb of Zhabei, where the army fired machine
guns, killing more than 100 people. The threat of intervention by the French and British
troops ended up discouraging the strikers on 16 April.

With the end of the general union of Shanghai, the way is free to suppress all the Chinese
left: April 15, 2000 activists are rounded up in Canton. Despite this, at the CCP congress
at the end of the month, General Secretary Chen Du-xiu continues to want to conciliate the
nationalist bourgeoisie and demands to curb the workers' demands! Three months later,
Tchang regained control of the Wuhan government and a year later, he unified China in an
authoritarian nationalist regime.

The anarchists supporting Chiang Kai shek will take advantage of his victory to open in
Shanghai at the end of the year 1927, a National University of Labor, for the children of
peasants and workers, who is faithful to the ideas of Kropotkin on the " Alliance of
manual labor and studies. This university will be marginalized as early as 1928, when the
GMD no longer needs the anarchists and will begin the purge within the federation of trade
unions in Shanghai, which it had aroused itself ... without Li Shizeng and Wu Zihui The
little finger to save their comrades. The university will close in 1932.

The communists, joined by many anarchists, retreated to the west and began to rely on the
peasant population to revive their revolution. Other anarchists will continue to act
clandestinely, especially through their militancy for esperanto.
