Naturally, the referendum vote was not going to be a simple matter. Since the president himself was behind the push, he was clearly never going to accept "no" for an answer. That's why it was no surprise when the government issued last-minute changes to how the votes would be counted — after voting had already begun. Even the Turkish Bar Association has slammed the referendum results as faulty and fraudulent, and election observers are accusing the Turkish government of breaking the law with their last-minute changes to the voting rules. These changes allowed the government to count 1.5 million additional ballots that were previously considered invalid — which is more than the vote's margin of 1.38 million ballots, and could have swayed the results. Some international election observers were also temporarily detained, meaning they were not present to supervise the voting and ballot-counting. It's clear that these results are not trustworthy.
