Chechnya: The arrests have resumed

Dear friends – Nearly 100 days ago, on April 1, news broke of Chechnya’s anti-gay purge. Over 100 men were arrested, imprisoned, and tortured by state authorities because they were believed to be gay. At least 6 men were murdered. We thought this state-sponsored terror had ended. But in the last few days, we've heard from survivors that the arrests have resumed. Russian federal authorities claim the allegations are "a provocation, a false report" and have refused to take action. This Monday marks the 100th day since the news first broke. 100 days of injustice. We must let Russian authorities know that's 100 days too long and we demand justice! Chechen authorities deny all allegations and consider the suggestion that gay men exist in Chechnya a "filthy provocation." The head of the Argun police in Chechnya said, "My officers would not even want to touch such people, if they exist, let alone beat or torture them." But my colleagues and I at the Russian LGBT Network have seen first hand the pain and suffering of those who survived these horrors. We can't let Ramzan Kadyrov, the Head of the Chechen Republic, get away with this anti-gay crackdown. Stand with us in solidarity today!
