Refugees left in limbo

Take Action!
Dear friends,

Last week, the Supreme Court of the United States allowed parts of the Muslim and refugee ban to go into effect and now the fate of the refugee program hangs in the balance. Most immediately, tens of thousands of refugees already being processed to come to the United States are now in limbo, their lives at risk.

Instead of turning our back on refugees, we need to stand together to say, “I Welcome”. Join Amnesty International and take action now.

We can’t let the Trump administration close our doors to people seeking help and safety. People like Nadia A. (not her real name), who is a trans person living outside her home country of Iran, while she awaits resettlement to the United States. Nadia suffered rape and harassment in Iran and was ostracized by her family, who felt ashamed of her. Not only did her family refuse to accept her gender identity, but some physically beat her.

“My life in Iran was like hell. Really, they wanted to kill me. They didn’t accept me. I don’t know what to do. I am always crying because of this awful situation, and unfortunately there is no help.”
- Nadia A.

Nadia isn’t alone in her experience. Many others also don’t have the option of going home. They are seeking what any of us would want if we were in their shoes.

We are not powerless. It’s not too late for Congress to take action to stop this. Key Senators on the Foreign Relations Committee can make a difference. Take action today and call on key Senators to act.

Thank you for taking action,

Margaret Huang
