Help keep young LGBT Albanians safe
Dear friends–
I have been a victim of harassment many times when going out with other gay, lesbian, or trans friends.
In Albania it's almost impossible for us to take a walk or hang out without facing verbal abuse.
Having gone through all of this myself, I decided I had to do something to help other LGBT people.
That's why I started volunteering in the LGBT movement four years ago. We set up a helpline for LGBT people so that they would not be so alone in this hostile environment.
But the helpline wasn't enough. The abuses many LGBT people suffer are so horrible that dozens of them need professional helpfrom a doctor, a psychologist, or a social worker. And we can't provide this.
As a volunteer, I've heard heartbreaking stories of people rejected by their families, denied much needed healthcare, and attacked on the streets with the knowledge that the police will do little to protect them.
My colleagues and I do our best to help the dozens of people who call us, desperate for help. But we're just volunteers and don't have all the answers and solutions these people so badly need.
That's why I'm reaching out today, Luc. If enough All Out members chip in today, we can have a doctor, a psychologist, and a social worker available online for those who need them, twice a week for an entire year.
