Hello,
Here's what you need to know this week.
The crisis in Burma has been shaping a lot of news this month. If you're catching up on the story, here's some of what you should know:
  • Detailed satellite images of Burma's Rakhine State show the near total destruction of 214 villages.
  • The burning is part of the Burmese security forces’ campaign of ethnic cleansing that has forced over 400,000 Rohingya Muslims to flee to neighboring Bangladesh.
  • Those fleeing mass atrocities in Burma are now faced with harsh conditions in camps across the border where access to aid is of the utmost importance.
  • We’ve been reporting on the plight of the Rohinga since 1996. They are one of the largest stateless populations in the world and have faced decades of discrimination and repression.

When all other human rights have been lost, the last remaining right, the difference between life and death, is the right to flee.

YOUR POINT OF LIGHT:
Good news! This month, Ghana's president announced: “there will be no admission fees, no library fees, no science center fees, no computer laboratory fees, no examination fees, no utility fees. There will be free textbooks, free boarding and free meals, and day students will get a meal at school for free.”
