Human Rights Have No Borders
Dear friends,
Today, Rohingya people are being targeted and killed in Myanmar.
Their homes are being burned down.
Men, women and children are fleeing for their lives.
This has been called ‘a textbook example of ethnic cleansing.’*
They’ve been forced to leave their whole lives behind in search of safety in Bangladesh. Thousands arrive there every day. Traumatised and exhausted with nowhere to go.
Just weeks ago, in an attempt to seek safety by fishing boat — children have drowned.
We will not stop until they’re safe.
We’ve been exposing the violence and abuse towards the Rohingya people in both Myanmar and Bangladesh for more than 20 years.
Just last year we exposed the horrific torture, rape and abduction of men, women and children at the hands of Myanmar security forces.
This is by far the worst crisis we’ve seen in Myanmar.
It’s clear what has to happen next. The international community must put pressure on Myanmar to end its campaign of violence, we can’t look away.
Luc, we can’t abandon them. We won’t let the Myanmar military get away with this.
Sincerely,
Tirana Hassan,
CRISIS RESPONSE DIRECTOR, AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
