Dear friends,
Greece is about to take an important step to protect the rights of trans people. But there's a big problem.
If the law is approved, trans people will be able to legally change their name and gender without going through medical interventions, as long as...
- A random judge decides their looks "match" their gender.
- They divorce their partner, if they're married.
- They are not an immigrant or a refugee.
There is still time to change this, but we need to act fast: the Greek parliament will start discussing the bill soon.
Imagine having a judge decide if you "look like your gender", based purely on stereotypes.
There's still time to change these provisions and make this a real victory for trans rights in Greece. We've teamed up with trans rights activists, the Greek Transgender Support Association, Colour Youth, and Amnesty International, to make sure this opportunity isn't wasted. If enough people speak out, we can convince Greek politicians to do the right thing.
Thank you for going All Out,
Matt, Ana, Mathias, Sarah, Yuri, Leandro, and the rest of the All Out team
