"Unions, organisations and collectives here signing this call intend to communicate to the
workers and to all the popular classes our position about recent events that occured in
the streets of our villages, towns and cities." ---- United call for general strike from
libertarian unions, organisations and assemblies of Catalonia ---- Unions, organisations
and collectives here signing this call intend to communicate to the workers and to all the
popular classes our position about recent events that occured in the streets of our
villages, towns and cities. ---- For years, we have observed the escalation of tensions in
a now historical conflict which aimed to reduce the fundamental rights of the population.
We come from a political and syndical tradition which has always defended the rights and
the freedoms of the oppressed class and has taken to the streets when it was needed to get
what allows us now to be the actors of our present and future out of the hands of the power.

As libertarian folks and active parts of unions, popular and associative movements of
Catalonia, we will always defend the right to self-determination of the peoples - and this
starts with ours. We believe this is a basic principle of confederalism and a needed
condition for human coexistence in an egalitarian regime. We clearly state that no
complete emancipation is possible without the previous path of eliminating the economical
structure that restrain it, that is capitalism. As long as this didn't happen, life
conditions of the working class will still be crashed by an Spanish or Catalan oligarchy
as they always work together when it comes to imposing labor counter-reforms or attacking
social rights.

However, we aim to denounce the militarization and the repression we face from the Spanish
State, as it shows now its real authoritarian face by imposing its views, no matter the
consequences. We always fought against whoever tried to militarize Catalonia - or any
other territory - to defeat the great popular protests and any desire of social emancipation.

We oppose the State repression because we already experienced it in a systematic and
continuous way in our very bodies, in the streets and our workplaces. Therefore, we also
want to denounce the repressive nature of the Generalitat de Catalunya which has
persecuted, beaten, arrested and sent to prison all those who refused to look on this
another side when civil and human rights were being smashed. We do not forget the way the
Mossos d'Escuadra kicked us out of the Plaza Catalunya, arrested and prosecuted unionists
for their participation in the demo which had circled the Parliament when our social
rights were cut. We do not forget the comrades who were arrested and sentenced to prison
with the massive police operations such as the recent Pandora operations, nor our dead and
our mutilations. We will not let anyone take what is ours, no matter the colour of the
flag he waves.

To our opinion, self-determination and emancipation of our villages and towns cannot be
expressed solely through a concrete decision of territorial delimitation. Collective
freedom will only be possible through determined action from the people and the workers
against a State and political elites which maintain antisocial, heteropatriarchal and
oppressive structures as some of the actors of Catalan sovereignty advocate.
Self-determination and emancipation will only be possible through the rebellious action of
the oppressed, namely the defense and the improvement of their material life conditions.
The socialisation of the means of production and the wealth, the elimination of every form
of oppression such as heteropatriarchy and its explicit as well as implicit power
structures, broad freedom of decision and participation through direct action and
self-governement are the key elements that could allow us to be truly free.

Therefore we believe that it is when the people constitutes itself as a political and
class subject that, through this very process, major social change can occure and this is
why we celebrate the extension of popular grassroot organisations to use disobedience and
face the current authoritarian context. We wish this disobedient and confrontative
behaviour against authority will go beyond and will be opposed to any injustice we face in
every aspect of our lives.

For all these reasons, we make a call to the workers of Catalonia to take part in the
mobilizations to defend our rights and freedoms and particularly to massively take part in
the general strike of October, 3rd. Because the spirit of rebellion and fight that
historically lives in this part of the world won't disappear so easily, because we are the
working class and we want to decide everything, it's our turn to take to the streets, it's
our turn to fight!

A referendum on abortion has almost been announced in the south and both sides of the
border major pro-choice demonstrations will take place in the next month.  The WSM is
mobilising for both of these and also running a bus from Dublin to Belfast for the Belfast
demonstration on the 14th.  If you are in Ireland we hope to see you in Dublin this
Saturday and Belfast on the 14th but one way to help wherever you are is to make a small
donation to help us subsidise the bus for others.  If you are thinking of going buy your
ticket now as that will enable us to go for a bigger bus (and then a 2nd one if we will
the first). ---- Our members & supporters are involved in organising for both marches but
last month we decided that to help get people on the streets we would also undertake to
produce pro-choice content for our social media.  As of now we’ve produced 15 pieces with
more to come, we’ve listed them all below.  You can give a hand by sharing these pieces
and in particular sharing our coverage of the March for Choice on Saturday.

If you need a last minute bit of motivation to turn up on Saturday consider this report on
‘Anti-choice dirty tricks - fake posters removed in Dublin’    We literally had to take a
break from writing this piece to publish it and its indicative that the anti-choice bigots
are going to play nasty, the media reports today of supposed ‘death threats’ being another
example.

Everything suggests the next few months will see a  very nasty campaign coming from the
right and far right as their unpopularity has them backed into a corner.

For four years now, the bosses of commerce are trying to completely abolish the Sunday
holiday with the ultimate goal of working 52 Sundays a year. From the 2013 "7 Sunday" law,
from the "pilot" implementation of the "52 Sundays" measure in the summer of 2014, from
the "8th Sunday" to the end of 2014, from the 3 rd Memorandum of 2015 and the margin which
leaves for "more Sundays" and the "2 additional conditional Sundays" at the end of 2016,
we arrive in May 2017 and on "32 Sundays" based on the agreement of the SYRIZA government
with the "institutions". ---- For 4 years Coordinating Against Sunday Work and "Liberated"
Hours, it is present every Sunday that attempts to open the shops. The same happened on
Sundays 10/9 and 17/9. ---- On Sunday, September 10, 2017, blockades on Tsimiski Street
began at 10:30. Exclusions were made at  H & M, benetton, calzedonia, pull & bear, vicko,
flomar, intimissimi, english home, presentation, Bazaar and Public, and Coordinating
Against Sunday Labor and Liberated  Hours  also included the  blockade of the department
store NOTS "that was done by the workers' union on it. The attitude of the employees in
these shops was positive and the commercial movement was very subdued. At 12:00 it was the
invited gathering at the contribution of Aristotle to Tsimiski. It followed a course on
the commercial streets of the city, with a main focus on the Tsimiski and Mitropoleos
streets, where there are many shops. After the end of the course, Coordinating against
Sunday's work and "liberated" hours returned to "NOTS", supporting the club's exclusion
for an hour and a half.

On Sunday, 17/7/2017, there were again blockades on Tsimiski Street, which started shortly
after 10:30. The  Bitsiani, H & M, pull & bear, Vicko, Public and NOTOS stores it was
within them that access was blocked by protesters. Once again the attitude of the
employees of the shops was positive. However, tensions have taken place between protesters
and aspiring clients who, by their attitude, perceiving their role or not, act as the
bomber of the bosses. The slogan "If you want to shop Sunday, prepare to work Sunday"
directly condenses the reasons that no one should visit the stores on Sundays, thus
supporting the measure that we want to have no personal time. Following the exclusions, it
followed a course that started from Aristotelous Square at the height of Tsimiski and was
once again moved to Tsimiski and Mitropoleos streets,

For years we have been experiencing ever more severe cuts in our labor rights, an
increasing amount of exploitation by our bosses. The situation is known to all of us: wage
and pension cuts, legal overtime, split hours, hourly employment, fixed-term contracts
and, of course, good traditional black labor that continues to live and reign in all
branches despite the trivial notices about her "battering". And over the heads of us, the
unemployed: working black, working uninsured, working on Sundays, working beyond time, and
dare to deny the simple solution: the armies of the unemployed are the best proof that
capital is as good as our own class , the exploiters are silent.

Only united can we face the bosses and impose our right, otherwise we are doomed to work
more and more, more and more cheaply, that time, that day they want and for as long as
they want us before they send us back to the OAED queues.
That is why we call on workers and workers to get in touch with industry unions and
industry initiatives, to set up new ones where they do not exist, to create workshops in
each shop and to get in touch with coordination. It is necessary to understand the power
that we have in our hands as the true producers of the wealth around us and based on our
backs and with our weapon of class solidarity, to continue to work more and more
dynamically to organize and to resist collectively inside and out from our workplaces.

We do not stop the fight until Sunday stops being a working day and we renew our
appointment for the following Sunday on 8/10 at 10.00 Tsimiski with Aristotelous ...

Anarchists in Catalonia are backing a region-wide general strike for October 3rd and are
calling for solidarity actions against the Spanish government as it brutally represses
Catalan independence activists. ---- The CNT anarcho-syndicalist union has agreed to join
the strike as anarchists nationwide put up statements condemning Spanish Prime Minister
Mariano Rajoy's decision to send thousands of police in to violently break up plans for a
regional independence referendum. ---- The CNT maintains an internationalist position in
that it has no formal opinion on the question of nationalism and Catalan sovereignty,
however it seems likely it and the broader Spanish anarchist movement will take to the
streets in force to help protect people facing the increasingly militarised government
intervention. In a statement CNT Catalonia said:

After meetings held with the other unions, the Catalan regional CNT has decided to join
the strike for this coming October 3rd.

At CNT we fully support the reasons for this strike: the continuing loss of rights for the
working class, together with the concerning situation that Catalan workers are
experiencing as they perform their jobs by the actions of the different bodies and
repressive organs of the State.

CNT condemns this interference and defends the right of the people of Catalonia to be able
to express themselves freely on any matter that concerns them, including, of course,
self-determination.

The CNT is calling for solidarity with the Catalan working class, which is experiencing a
double oppression, economic and military. This situation of militarisation and repression
completely transcends the Catalan political situation and sets a very serious precedent in
the central government's responses to social struggles: to claim that safeguarding "the
rule of law" should allow them to trample on our essential rights and freedoms.

We understand that the unknown measures of repression that the central government is
deploying are not a real response, albeit typical of the heirs of the Franco dictatorship,
to the "sovereign Catalan challenge." The creation of a war scenario with huge doses of
propaganda, patriotic exaltation and fear of the other can only give rise to
irreconcilable sides: "With them" or "with us." They know it and it is what they are
looking for. This social recapitalisation on both sides of the front line has been kept up
the sleeve of the two major party bastions of an unjust and corrupt system. Parties that
did nothing saw their hegemony jeopardised by internal corruption and developed policies.

The CNT is standing up. Not against the Spanish attack or against the Catalan people, but
together with our Catalan brothers and sisters to defend rights and freedoms that are for
everyone. The CNT stands to face the violence of the real enemy, a regime that is killing
us wherever we live.

Companions and companions, the CNT de Catalunya i Balears calls us to extend the
mobilisation throughout the country. It is our duty to make it possible.

Direct rebellion has been rising in the region over the last few days as police use
increasingly hardline tactics to repress protesters and campaigners:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=APsHNIrS7-s

Calls have been made for solidarity groups to back the strike on October 3rd by protesting
at Spanish embassies, while in other areas rallies have already been called in Bristol
(October 3rd), and Glasgow (October 5th).

Update: SolFed has now called a Catalan solidarity demo at the Spanish Embassy, 66
Chiltern St, London from 6pm, October 3rd.

is Enough!

Before depositing nihilisms and ideological "critiques" ... The issue is not to say again
and again that the process of independence in Catalonia is a bourgeois secessionism with
revolutionary elements and leftists of the second degree that can be fruitful if they are
organized permanently, the point now is to point the critic to the repressive voracity of
the state Spanish on this first day of elections  - many who come between protests and
protestants of the centralism of the club. "Shame will forever persecute the Spanish state
for having used violence, batons, rubber bullets and indiscriminate aggression against
people who wanted ballot boxes and ballots," said the President of the Generalitat de
Catalunya, Carles Puigdemont. ---- The images and videos of today's day are outrageous (as
if reviving the international spirit of # 15-M in its early days, when Spanish streets
trembled with so much popular rage), children, adolescents, adults and even elderly beaten
in the face with a stream of blood thinning down his features. However, this positive and
practical dignity has served as a historic day for this October 1 ( # 1-O as hashtag in
social networks) achieving that 2.262.424 voters (that is, 42.34%  of the local census) to
go to the polls. The  90% swept the YES , unlike a tiny 7.8% sector covering the NO.

In short, the Spanish State has demonstrated once more that violence , both there and in
every modern state in the capital world, is its unique language. President Mariano Rajoy
gave from early hours the order of the use of public forces to the National Police and the
Civil Guard to evict as a place of citizens who guarded the polling stations throughout
Catalonia in a failed attempt to bypass the referendum. Among the guns: blows, rubber
bullets and insults of the slaves in uniform for those who bravely stood before them to
achieve, even outside, a few more votes while the confrontation was witnessed in the streets.

According to the Generalitat's Emergency Medical System (EMS), two people were
hospitalized in critical condition; one of them wounded in the eye by rubber bullet - as
happened with the activist Ester Quintana in May of 2014 who lost an eye in an identical
repression - and another one that suffered a heart attack after one of the evictions in
the Generalitat.

The primary points of police repression were in Sant Julià de Ramis, Barceloneta and in
Nou Barris. The riot police also deployed a parapet at the entrance of several schools to
prevent voters from entering.

From the Palau de la Generalitat in Barcelona, the local parliament celebrates the
victory of YES.

To what I ask the Catalan people as a creative route: and now, what follows?

We look forward to the coming days as they energetic the autonomist spirit not only in
opposition to the Nation-State, but also with the local statism that we have already seen
fail in other points of history ...
