Across the United States, state laws are being passed or debated that would allow businesses, adoption and foster care agencies, and even healthcare providers to discriminate against LGBT people. The laws claim – disingenuously – to be nothing more than an effort to protect business owners’ or providers’ religious freedom. We asked LGBT rights researcher Ryan Thoreson about the real impact of these laws.
He made a mistake, was charged with driving under the influence in the US, and was put on probation. But did he deserve to pay more than $10,000 in probation-related costs to a private probation company?
