Outrageous: Devastating re-arrest in Turkey

	Dear friends, This is outrageous. Amnesty Turkey Board Chair Taner Kılıç has been re-arrested and detained — just hours after his release from prison had been ordered. Yesterday, a Turkish court had decided to conditionally release Taner. Today, the news is infuriating. Over the last 24 hours, we have witnessed a travesty of justice of spectacular proportions. To have been granted release only to have the door to freedom slammed in his face is devastating for Taner, his family, and all who stand for justice in Turkey. This latest episode of his detention has dashed the hopes of Taner and those of his wife and daughters — who were waiting by the prison gates to welcome him into their arms. Meanwhile, the prosecutor appealed the court’s decision to release him, and a second court accepted the prosecutor’s appeal. Instead of being released, Taner was taken from Izmir prison where he had been held since June, and into custody. One million voices and compassionate supporters like you have called for Taner’s release. He should never have been arrested, and I want you to know that we will not rest until he is free. Amnesty is putting pressure on Turkish authorities to release human rights defenders and to stop human rights abuses.
