Gina Haspel for CIA Director?

Dear friends,
Gina Haspel has been nominated to be the Director of the CIA, but there are serious allegations that she was closely involved in the CIA’s torture program after the September 11th attacks.

President Trump has supported torture several times, declaring that he would bring back "waterboarding and a hell of a lot worse" as President. We can’t let torture happen again: tell your Senators to vote No on Gina Haspel for CIA Director unless there is a full investigation into her role in torture.

Torture is illegal, and if Gina Haspel is confirmed as CIA Director without an investigation, the US government is turning a blind eye to the crimes committed in the CIA program.

Without transparency and full accountability for torture and other human rights violations, future recurrence becomes more likely. The risk for human rights posed by this situation — not in the least under a President who has publicly voiced his support for torture — is clear.

If there is admissible evidence of Gina Haspel’s involvement in torture, she should be brought to trial, not handed a promotion. Tell your Senators to vote No on Gina Haspel for CIA Director unless her alleged role in torture is investigated.

There is credible evidence of Gina Haspel’s close involvement in a CIA secret prison, reportedly in Thailand, where two detainees were tortured in 2002. She is also alleged to have played a leading role in the destruction of videotaped evidence of torture committed against these two detainees.

Gina Haspel cannot be confirmed without these allegations being investigated—tell your Senators to demand an investigation of Gina Haspel’s involvement in human rights violations as an employee of the CIA and to vote No unless it happens.

Thank you for taking action,
