Dear friends,
The conflict in Syria just entered another year. The nightmare continues for children and families. We are urgently seeking funds to step up advocacy and to protect civilians. We need your support... Because over the past month, more than 1,000 people — many of them children — have been killed in Eastern Ghouta, a suburb of Damascus. For these families, the past few weeks have been some of the bloodiest — after being trapped in a siege for years. Wave after wave of bombs have rained down on homes and schools. Hospitals crumbled. Chemical weapons fell from the sky. A paramedic said his wife and daughter had been sheltering in a basement in Eastern Ghouta for the past three weeks: “They haven’t been able to see the sunlight at all because of the heavy bombardment. The basements are overcrowded and there are cases of children fainting due to a shortage of oxygen, no sunlight, and diseases. The situation is very, very tragic.” {Name}, when we are faced with crises that are so large and so disastrous, it may often feel like there is little we can do to help. But we can make a difference for Syrian children and families. With your support today, we will continue to document the horrific abuses and pressure the international community to stop this catastrophe. Together, we can help demand justice and save lives in Syria. Please give what you can today. Thank you, Margaret Huang Executive Director Amnesty International USA | ||||||
