Dear friends, This may come as a shock, but horse slaughter is alive and thriving. Although the consumption of horse meat is almost non-existent in countries like the U.S. and Canada, horse meat is still consumed in other parts of the world. In order to supply this demand, live horses are shipped out of Canada for slaughter. Recent videos show the appalling treatment of live horses at Edmonton International Airport (EIA) — horses are overcrowded in crates too small for them and go up to 36 hours without any food or water. This isn't just cruel: it's a clear violation of shipping regulations put forth by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. We cannot allow this cruel industry to continue operating.
