Anarchism today is part of a long tradition of thought and struggle. This discussion
meeting, presented by Brian Morris, will show how many of the ideas of past anarchists,
such as Bakunin and Kropotkin, are still relevant today. The reason for this is that their
ideas emerged from actual struggles of the working class. However, this does not mean that
we should treat these ideas as religious doctrine. They were very much products of their
time and issues such as the oppression of women were not at the forefront of their
thinking. Though many of the fundamental conditions are still the same, like capitalism
and the State, there have been many changes and new struggles which have become relevant.
Therefore we need to look for new ideas. But where do we look? The corridors of
universities or people involved in struggles? Brian will focus on environmentalism as one
of the important new struggles.
Brian Morris is the the author of books on Bakunin , Kropotkin, Ecology and Anarchism,.

While the SNCF has achieved, for its 80 years, 1.33 billion euros in profits, the state
wants to complete the privatization that will put the coup de grace to the public service,
to the detriment of users, users, railwaymen and railway workers. To oppose it, you need a
real blocking strike, not the eclipsing strike invented by the CGT, Unsa and CFDT
federations ! ---- On 1 st July 2017 Macron addressed some railway workers and railway
handpicked: " Are we talking frankly if we hit the debt, what new social pact she is
ready to have the train ?[...]We ask the SNCF to go further on the reforms, the status,
the mobility, the pension scheme " [1]. Since then, Jean-Cyril Spinetta, former CEO of
Air France - which he privatized - has been tasked with writing a report on the future of
the public company. Based on its recommendations, taken by the government and SNCF
management, the " railway pact " is a real provocation for both users and users of rail
and SNCF staff.
No less than 9,000 kilometers of branch lines are deemed unprofitable. Rather than clash
with local authorities, the government leaves it to the regions to decide on the future of
these lines. The state of disrepair of these infrastructures, the cost of their
renovation, their low profitability and the lack of interest that will be carried by rail
operators, SNCF or private make the future of these lines very dark.
The Navigo Pass London: 368 euros per month
Ticket prices will rise further, due to the abolition of SNCF's tariff regulation
mechanisms and the questioning of the principle of national equalization in force in the
public services.
In view of the Mobilities law expected this month, it is planned a reduction of the TGV
park, the removal of services of medium-sized cities and the questioning of train journeys
lasting more than three hours and thirty minutes.
The privatization of rail passenger transport is planned for 2019 for certain TERs, and at
the end of 2020 for TGVs. The arrival of competition in freight in 2005 was catastrophic
for SNCF but also for other railway undertakings [2]. The volume of rail freight has been
halved and carried on the road. International passenger traffic has been " liberalized "
in 2010, but only a few private trains run daily.
Rail users and users should not expect prices to fall due to competition. In countries
where rail transport has been " liberalized ", fares have risen sharply. For example,
the Navigo pass, which allows unlimited travel by bus, tram, metro, RER and train in most
of the Île-de-France, is 75 euros per month. Its equivalent in London is 368 euros for a
network 8 times smaller.
Gift for private candidates to take over TER traffic, qualified SNCF staff will be
transferred to the selected company. Railway workers and railway workers who refuse to
transfer should accept the changes proposed by the SNCF or be considered as resigning ...
a windfall effect for the SNCF which will be able to get rid of low-cost agents.
A law that prohibits privatization, well ...
Once again, the legal status of SNCF should evolve with the creation of two anonymous
companies with exclusively public capital. The government promises that the law will ban
any privatization. But, already very numerous, these have considerably weakened the rail
public service. And the news shows that to sell the share of the State in the Aéroports de
Paris, we quickly changed the law !
This new counter-reform of the railway will not solve the daily difficulties of users and
users: failures, delays, trains deleted ... The subject of the recovery of the " debt "
of 46.6 billion euros by the State was evaded by the Prime Minister. But this debt (which
is not that of the SNCF, and even less that of railway and railway) comes from the
pharaonic policy of all-TGV wanted by various governments, led to the detriment of the
regeneration of the conventional rail network, with a drastic reduction in the number of
railway workers (to which will be added a new wave of 5,000 voluntary departures), despite
a rise in the price of tickets.
Overcome the strategy of the eclipse strike
Railway and railway workers will have to fight very hard to face this new challenge. The
latest conflicts have been lost due to lack of trade union unity and losing strategies
based on repeated high-speed demobilizers.
If there is unanimity to start the strike on April 3, the CGT, Unsa and CFDT-Cheminots
federations call for two-day strikes every five days, while SUD-Rail has a mandate for a
re-negotiable strike decided in general assemblies. . The 36 days of square strike that
are scheduled do not block the economy and confiscate strikers the conduct of the
movement. The basic union teams will, more than ever, go beyond themselves and unite to
impose the terms of the strike.
Finally, since the attacks against the railway workers are of the same nature as those
targeting other employees, retirees, young people as well as users and users of public
services, the convergence of struggles will be an undeniable asset. In this sense, the
aggregation of various mobilizations on March 22 is a positive signal.

Railroad status, scarecrow to liberals
The railway status would disappear for future hires. In other words, the future jobs of
SNCF and private companies will be based on precariousness. The status cheminot is the box
fantasy agitated to manipulate the opinion. The statute makes it possible to assimilate
the railway workers to civil servants, because it does not provide for economic
redundancies and defines conditions of career development - which otherwise are not
automatic. In reality, workers are subject to the same contribution periods as other
employees in order to receive a full pension. The statutory pay grid is not stupendous.
The gross salary of a novice railway worker at the bottom of the ladder is less than the
Smic; the salary of the highest executive with the maximum seniority is 3.6 times higher.
Those who see their remuneration explode, however, are the senior executives " out of
status ", like the Minister of Armies Florence Parly who previously received the
equivalent of 35 Smic per month to SNCF Voyages. Traffickers of railway status also forget
to remind the constraints related to the continuity of a public service that must operate
24/7. Moreover, if the life of cheminot.e was so advantageous, why SNCF does it have such
a hard time recruiting train drivers or referral agents, for example, and why did 1,400
officers voluntarily leave the company in 2016 ?

This community has for centuries been resisting colonizing attempts to end its culture and
traditions. Since 2001, violations of the most elementary rights of the Mapuche people
have "increased", emphasizing since the anarcho-syndicalist organization. ---- The General
Confederation of Labor (CGT) expressed in a statement its "support and collaboration" with
the campaign called for the life, dignity and justice of the Mapuche people. ---- They
also denounce that "in the Chilean state, police forces have become the armed wing of
landowners and large corporations whose main objective is to convert biodiversity and
nature into merchandise." "In addition," they add, "the State of Chile refuses to dialogue
with the Mapuche population, accusing its leaders of 'terrorists'."
In this sense, and in order to achieve its objective, the State of Chile has stripped the
most fundamental rights of the Mapuche community, laws on indigenous peoples enshrined in
the United Nations Declaration and in ILO Convention 169.
The anarcho-syndicalist organization explains that the government of Chile "is carrying
out assemblies against leaders and spiritual authorities of the Mapuche People with the
aim of criminalizing their struggle, which is none other than the recovery and protection
of their territories in which this community has always lived ".
Nowadays, according to the anarcho-syndicalist organization, "there are two ancestral
authorities persecuted and accused of crimes they did not commit, among them Celestino
Cordova who has been on hunger strike for more than 80 days." "Other people, directly,
were murdered for defending the rights and freedoms of this people," they stress.
The CGT argues that "crimes against the Mapuche people can not and should not go
unpunished" and determines that "dissemination and collaboration with this campaign of
awareness and awareness is vital."
