He Only Has One Chance At Safety

Tell the Trump Administration to Let Sam Come Home
Dear friends,
Can you imagine waiting for three years in a foreign country, waiting for your plane ticket to the United States, only for that opportunity to be taken away with a refugee ban? Well that is exactly what happened to Sam, an Iraqi refugee stuck in limbo in Egypt.

Now, due to the delays caused by the ban, Sam is in danger of being returned to Iraq, where he would be at risk of serious harm or death. The US must rectify this broken promise.

Sam fled Iraq in 2014 after his and his family’s lives were threatened because of his work alongside the US Army as an interpreter. In Iraq, numerous interpreters like him who have worked with the US have been murdered. He is afraid of meeting the same fate.

Tell the US: Don’t turn your back on refugees like Sam

After arriving in Egypt, Sam applied for resettlement in the US through a special program that helps Iraqis who worked with the US government like him. The US government conditionally approved Sam for resettlement in December 2016.

Almost a year later, after Sam completed all the necessary paperwork, security checks and cultural orientation, he received the good news he was hoping for: he was told to get ready for travel to the United States. He had his bags packed for his new life where he had a home and a community standing by to welcome him.

Shortly after receiving this good news, Trump’s latest version of the refugee ban was issued and it targeted Iraqi nationals like Sam. Although Sam has been accepted for resettlement, because of the country he came from he remains stuck in limbo with no idea when, if ever, he will be able to come home to the U.S.

Take action to help Sam get to his new home.

Sam has been waiting to enter the US for over three years in difficult and dangerous conditions, separated from his family, and unable to work. He is afraid any more delay will put him and his family in danger and at risk of death.

Sam is just one of thousands of people facing danger or persecution whose only chance at permanent safety is resettlement to a safe country. The only reason that Sam and people like him aren’t here is because of policies based on fear.

Sign now and tell the US to keep its promise to help Sam.
