Dear friends,

Nour met her husband Amir in the old town of Aleppo, Syria in 2012.

Amir had just finished university, meaning he was expected to do military service — but he didn’t want to take part in the war. So he fled to Egypt, then Turkey. But he missed the love of his life, Nour, who had stayed behind with her family in Aleppo.

After a year, he decided he couldn’t be apart from Nour anymore, so he decided to sneak back into Syria — to avoid being forced to do military service.

Together, Nour and Amir fled Aleppo under active gunfire, crossing a street with two warring groups shooting at everyone, with people dying all around them. Nour was pregnant at the time.

The situation for far too many Syrian families like Nour’s is very dire. But there is hope. Because by donating today, you can help Amnesty advocate to ensure Syrian families are protected from violence and oppression. Help now >>

Nour and Amir eventually applied for resettlement in Canada. Since arriving in Toronto, they have set up their own Syrian supper club and sell street food in the community. They speak very good English after spending just one year learning.

Luc, together with your support, we can make an impact by advocating for families like Nour’s who are seeking safe haven. Every single dollar makes a difference. Please donate today >>

Amnesty’s crisis team has been working on Syria for many years, and we’ve been on the front lines advocating for refugees — many of them children — who are seeking safety in other countries. And with your emergency donation, we will continue to document the horrific abuses and to demand that governments stop the bloodshed in Syria.

Stories like Nour’s give me hope that our support and activism will continue to make a difference.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration today.
