Dear friends
Pride was just banned in Istanbul. Again.
I'll be in Istanbul on Sunday to meet with the organisers. They've worked so hard for this and now they're faced with a ban – for the fourth year in a row!
The ban was announced at the very last minute so that we couldn't fight it. But we're not backing down.
The Governor of Istanbul has the power to withdraw this decision. There's very little time to change his mind, so we have to act NOW.
Istanbul Pride is the biggest LGBTI+ event in the region and it had been happening peacefully since 2003.
But for the past 4 years, local authorities have consistently blocked the event, claiming it's a matter of safety and public order.
When local activists tried to defy these arbitrary decisions by marching peacefully, they were violently attacked by the police with tear gas, rubber bullets, and water cannons.
Thanks for going All Out,
Yuri Guaiana,
Senior Campaigns Manager
