Don't Let Trump Send 200,000 People Back to Violence

Dear friends,
Seventeen years ago, earthquakes devastated El Salvador. At the time, 200,000 El Salvadorans were in the United States, and with their towns reduced to rubble, they were allowed to stay there until their country was safe enough for their return.
After spending nearly a generation in the US, these former refugees have started businesses, bought homes and raised children there. They are neighbors, friends, and family of US citizens. But now Trump plans to suddenly strip them of their visas and tee them up for deportation.
This wouldn't just rip families away from the lives they've built for the last 17 years. The premise for sending them back to El Salvador is that conditions there are safe, and that's simply not true. El Salvador has the highest homicide rate of any country not mired in war. Gang violence is rampant, the economy is fragile, and extortion and corruption rule the day. Dropping 200,000 more people into this already precarious situation will only make it worse.
Thank you,
P.S. This isn't about good policy or a sense of justice. This is a callous gift from Trump to his most xenophobic and hateful supporters. We can't let him use more than 200,000 lives as political pawns to appease his racist base.
