Dear friends,
My name is Maxim, I'm 16 and I'm the first minor to be prosecuted under Russia's anti-gay law.
Last week, a court fined me 50,000 rubles (around 660 EUR) for posting images of "partly nude" men on social media. Here in Russia, it's illegal to write, say, or do anything authorities consider "propaganda of non-traditional relationships".
It's ironic that a law that claims to "protect" children is being used against a minor.
I will go back to court soon to fight this decision. The Russian LGBT Network is providing me with legal support, but I'll need your help as well.
If thousands of people hear about my case, we can get Russia's absurd anti-gay law back in the news. We can demand that charges are dropped and push for an end to these laws once and for all.
When Russia approved the "propaganda law" a few years ago, it sparked global outrage. Now most of that attention has gone away.
Still, day after day, this awful law continues to fuel hate and hurt LGBT+ people across Russia. Pride has been banned, organisations have been attacked, and even sharing information on social media can result in fines.
I won't put up with this madness, but it's unlikely authorities will let me win – unless thousands of people join my call for justice.
Thanks for going All Out,
Maxim Neverov
