The following is an account of an anarchist immigrant who suffered a temporary abduction,
beatings and torture by a band of police officers in Exarchia, Athens, at dawn on Friday,
July 27. ---- On Thursday, July 27, around 2 o'clock in the morning on Bouboulinas Street,
in the Exarchia neighborhood of Athens, a squad of Greek policemen kidnapped me and
tortured me. Immediately they began to torture me with a series of kicks, using racist and
fascist insults. Meanwhile, the police said that my problem is that I am an anarchist and
belong to a known political group of Exarchia. ---- Then the police squadron forced me
into a dark alley. They laid me down and tried to break my ribs by kicking. I put my hand
on my ribs to protect them. They took my hand from my ribs and tried to break my fingers
with their shields. To protect my fingers, I pulled my hand under my belly. At that
moment, they hit my ribs again to break them. This action lasted for a long time, until
one of the officers proposed to break my wrists. So they put my hands on the curb to break
them with the batons, but I managed to move my hands away.

This heightened their anger, and, shouting for fascist and racist insults, everyone began
to beat me. They beat me for over an hour and a half. All this while they took some
pictures of me, and when I was unconscious on the street. When the cops realized that my
body was seriously injured and I could not move, they began to gloat with me, telling me,
"You have ten seconds to get out of here, if we get you again, we'll kill you." And two
cops moved in front of me to get me again. They hit my knee several times with sticks to
make sure I could not escape. When one of them turned to look back, with all the pain I
had, I started to run. One of the cops tried to pick me up again,

The paramedics came immediately and, after examining me, said that I should go to the
hospital. There they discovered that in addition to severe bruising all over my body and
wounds on the head, I had a fractured spinal joint.

Exarchia, an area of self-organized projects and revolutionary struggle, is under constant
state attack because it is a place that forms part of the international social struggle
against capitalism, mafia, terrorism and, in general, against the system. Exarchia is a
zone of defense where different groups exist and act together for freedom and equality,
and against oppression of the system. Through mutual cooperation, we can meet each other's
needs without any authority. That is why, for this struggle, the State beats us, it
represses us.

The State, by placing permanent police forces on the perimeter of Exarchia, has made a
kind of border between us and the rest of Athens, it is as if they put us in a kind of
prison. At the moment, we have no other way to resist this imprisonment, except the
agitation against the police stations. One reason the cops wanted to break my wrists is
because, as they said, I am one of those who participate in the riots. Many people are
usually involved in these clashes with the police because they do not want to be in prison
because they do not want control of any authority.

As an immigrant anarchist, I understand that the struggle for freedom is common among the
local inhabitants and the immigrants. For this reason, I work towards unity and making a
collective body between the local inhabitants and the immigrants. We will not only fight
for immigrants, but for everyone, because we understand that our pain, our problems are
the same.

Immigrants are under constant attack from the state and the fascists, and it does not
matter what kind of government is in power, whether it's an ultra-rightist or leftist
government. Syriza is coming forward as advocates for immigrants, but the reality is that
they are detaining large-scale immigrants, every day they deport and kill people at the
borders. We know that all authority is our enemy.

In today's Exarchia, immigrants are under increasing threat of repression. Recently, they
began to do sweeping operations in the neighborhood square, arresting any immigrants who
are there. At the same time, there are groups in Exarchia who act as policemen, using the
same tactics, as pogroms in the square against immigrants. As a group known as a security
team, the military part of the political group "Anti-authoritarian Movement" (AK), which
has a relationship with the government and stands as defenders of immigrants, but use
immigrants as cover for their business with the Mafia. As an immigrant, I have to tell
these groups: Stop using our name for your dirty business.

Of course, the cops and the mafia work together for the same purpose: to control and
annihilate the resistance.

The message of this violent attack by the uniformed frets was: to terrorize immigrants,
anarchists, and those who actively resist and fight the police. Let's not be intimidated.
State violence makes it clear that our struggle is fair.

Murderous police and mafia!

The IDF boarded a humanitarian ship out of its territorial waters heading for the Gaza
Strip, where the population has been suffering a ruthless blockade for years. ---- After
the massacres of civilian populations this spring , after the vote of the fundamental law
that marbles Israel that is an expansionist state and apartheid, Tel Aviv continues
imperturbably to violate human rights. ---- Read: Henriette Dahan Kalev (Israeli
anticolonialist): "  Israel is only part of the capitalist body that crush hopes for peace
" in Alternative libertaire from July-August 2018. ---- Libertarian Alternative calls
for the release of the twenty volunteers who were present on the trawler Al-Awda Sunday,
July 29, 2018, at the time of its interception by IDF. ---- The action of the Israeli army
is certainly illegal under international law. Above all, it reflects the feeling of
omnipotence and impunity that guides the policies of this colonial state, with the
benevolence of neighboring Western and Arab capitals. In France, governmental and media
silence prevails.

This confirms that only direct solidarity action can help the Palestinian people in their
rights. This direct solidarity action is embodied today, more than ever, in the
Boycott-Disinvestment-Sanction campaign, which Libertarian Alternative calls for
strengthening. Designed on the model of the international boycott that had isolated and
weakened the South African apartheid regime in the 1980s, the BDS campaign is the
international action that is currently most embarrassing for the Israeli government.

For the end of apartheid, for freedom in Palestine ! For the right of return of refugees !
For a unique Palestine, secular, democratic !

A year has passed since the libertarian comrade Santiago Maldonado has been kidnapped,
disappeared and murdered by the State. ---- Santiago on August 1, 2017, was in solidarity
with a Mapuche conflict with the multinational Benetton, at the time Gendarmerie arrived
to hunt down those who cut the route. It was time to end a conflict that took years, and
they had to do a lesson. This is how he was kidnapped and disappeared for more than 80
days, planting his body in the days close to the elections. ---- Santiago Maldonado was
not only a victim of the repressive forces, who put the worst of themselves in order to
comply with the order to repress; He was also a victim of the media manipulation of
society to conceal the state responsibility and the society that the State has with the
large landowners and the economic and mafia groups. Santiago was also a victim of the
electoral manipulation of political parties that all they want is to use the dead of the
people for their political benefit and gain power. That is why, having been found the body
and passed the elections, the political opportunists returned to their routine and the
fight for the clarification of their kidnapping and murder was in the hands of his family
and social organizations and groups that, far from politicking cheap,

It has been a year of great pain and anger for their relatives, friends and colleagues,
who throughout this time have demolished all the barriers imposed on them. Every day the
truth becomes more evident and it is more difficult to cover those who from the Ministry
of Security planned the repression, with Patricia Bullrich at the head; a nefarious person
who later deepened the attack on the Mapuche people with the various repressive forces,
the same ones that on October 25 murdered the young worker Rafael Nahuel in the back.

After this time, we keep asking ourselves: Until when? How long will the admirers of the
dark times of the military dictatorship continue to have the power to decide over life and
death? How long will we allow the militarization of society and repression to maintain
profits and privileges of those who rob the people?

The case of Santiago showed those who are supportive, who are opportunists and who have no
qualms or scruples when it comes to satisfying the wishes of the ruling class.

Santiago showed the terror that the State and the different governments have for a
solidary and organized people. His name is added to the thousands of daughters and sons of
the people for whom justice is demanded, such as Laura Iglesias, Rafael Nahuel or Daniel
Solano. Their names and memories also demand the end of an exploitative system as the
capitalist is.

JUSTICE FOR SANTIAGO MALDONADO!
ENOUGH OF REPRESSION TO THE PEOPLE!
SANTIAGO IS SOLIDARITY!

statement of the chairman of the Osiedle Sw. Lazarz, Filip Olszak aroused many emotions.

During the meeting, the residents also signed their signatures at the Poznan Theses for
Trees and Parks, expressing their support for the idea.
The debate "Stop betonowaniu Poznan" can be summarized as follows:
- residents of Poznan report strong opposition to investments located on green areas,
recognizing them as a common good and natural and cultural heritage,
- a large group of speakers and participants points to a large number of problems related
to behavior and shaping green areas in Poznan
- inhabitants of Poznan report the need to organize networking meetings, during which
specific cases will be discussed as well as opportunities for cooperation in the
preservation of greenery,
- there is a need to develop methods of real participation, so that residents adjacent to
planned investments that will have a direct impact on the quality of their lives are not
neglected in planning processes,
- documents need to be developed - a model of other cities in Poland - protecting green
areas and establishing a coherent vision of the development of the city's natural system
(including the Municipal Plan of Green Areas Protection as well as the Green Areas
Development Strategy)

In connection with the above, as a result of the debate an informal coalition has been
formed that strongly objects to investments located on green areas, recognizing them as a
common good and natural and cultural heritage. The aim is to publicize controversial cases
and share tips on how to act to effectively protect green areas.

The report from the debate can be seen in the pictures presented on the page Stop
betonowym Parkom.
On the same page there will be presentations and a film report.

On July 28 and 29, protests against raising the retirement age took place in Moscow. The
first was initiated by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the second by the
Libertarian Party. More than 10 thousand people took part in each of the rallies - both
representatives of various opposition political forces and simply not indifferent people.
Anarchists in both actions were represented by supporters of the libertarian initiative in
defense of labor rights Antijob. ---- In addition, a group of anarcho-syndicalists took
part in the rally on July 28. They campaigned for a general strike against the pension
reform. ---- The next wave of shares against raising the retirement age is planned for
September, when the State Duma will consider the bill in the second reading.

IMPRESSIONS FROM THE FAU FEDERAL CONGRESS 2018 met in Naturfreundehaus Hannover. ----
Already eleven years ago, as a new member, I experienced a FAU congress near Hannover -
but a special congress was held in 2007. The FAU had only one third of the current number
of members. Internal conflicts and personal feuds often shaped the discussions - currently
it is labor disputes, which often led to success with much passion. However, I do not want
to talk about everything well and everything from that time bad - it was just other times
and the FAU took a long time to find and structure. ---- THE INTERNATIONAL QUESTION ----
What struck me at this year's congress at the Naturfreundehaus in the capital of Lower
Saxony: In 2007, there were several international guests who talked at length about the
social movements in their respective countries - even a visitor from Africa spoke about
the fight against rail privatization in Mali. There was even a small scandal with the
secretariat of the then International Workers' Association. Overall, the debate on
remaining in the ILO was very present. The secretary from the Serbian section approached
other guests as enemies of the IAA, after which, after a brief argument, most of the
delegates left the room. It is well known that the end of the relationship between FAU and
IAA should last for another ten years or so.Transnational is better - status and
perspectives of syndicalism ").

It was different in 2018. The international question had already been extensively
discussed at Whitsun prior to the Federal Congress and with the founding of the
International Confederation of Workers (IAK) in Parma (more information can be found
here). But not even a representative of the Spanish CNT was present at a FAU congress
surprised me and I have witnessed most of these nationwide meetings. A message had been
written by a secretary of a sister organization spontaneously at Whatsapp. The guests from
France, Brazil, Austria and the Travel Syndicate (so far only one nationwide section for
freeriding construction trades) kept their statements and report as relatively short.
There was also no evening event contrary to previous congresses. For a comrade offered a
tour in the district of Linden, where is also the FAU restaurant. We heard contemporary
historical as well as current urban development with prevented forced evictions and
existing open spaces.

INNER ORGANIZATIONAL DEMOCRACY IN TRANSITION?
Also new for me was the procedure to vote proposals. There were intensive discussions and
lengthy presentations of voting results from the respective syndicates (formerly the local
administrative units were called local groups) before the last major amendment to the
statutes from 2015, which has been voted in advance for two years. Applications which have
not received the necessary 75% of the approval can be discussed in working groups at the
congress and then be put to a written vote in a revised form.

Personally, I have doubts as to whether this very technocratic solution has not really
affected the culture of debate in real life. Of course, the decision is even more in the
hands of local groups, but such a congress is living on the idea that as many
representatives of the entire Federation as possible will come face to face in the plenary
session. Be that as it may, in 2018 groundbreaking motions were again decided, for example
on the specific position of the International Committee. The Articles of Association have
updated the FAU's media section, allocate more funds to the regional public relations
funds and set up the nationwide working group fem * fau.

FEMINISM AND SYNDICALISM
The AG fem * fau illustrates quite well that feminism is becoming more important in the
anarcho-syndicalist movement. In my opinion, significantly more women (probably about one
third) were at the congress. The AG meeting invited to a broad discussion on feminist
issues. A concept paper dealt with the topics of (self) education, advice, actions and
public relations. Questions asked by those involved were, "How can we get more women into
FAU?", "How do we deal with sexism in the workplace (and also in school)?" And "Are there
also in FAU -Plena structural problems with dominant speech behavior? ". In conversation
with the elected coordinator (a new mandate in the Federal FAU), a representative told me
that the establishment of the AG fem * fau "is an extremely important step to integrate
feminism into the daily work of the trade union". With regard to content, the working
group intends to focus on the following topics: unpaid reproductive work, involvement of
precariously employed women in trade union work and counseling those affected by sexist
incidents. The new International (IAC) is appropriately planning an Action Day on March 8,
2019 to focus on feminist struggles.

TOPICS ON THE TOOTH OF THE TIME
While I could not visit every workgroup, I had received instructions from my local group
on which workshops were our priority, but there were plenty of current issues that
delegates discussed in lively discussions. The workgroup Stadtteilarbeit and
community-building was a networking or exchange meeting, which activities run on site and
which experiences were collected. Especially in Dresden (in the Elbsandsteingebirge) and
Hanover, the local networking work is not pursued intensively without success. In
addition, in some FAU groups rental fights play a certain role. In the FAU Frankfurt am
Main, some active people dealt with the future of the working world. A delegate lectured
in the workshop on the subject of Industry 4.0. Some impulses on the potential
consequences of the transformation of the working world were presented (especially under
the heading of digitization). About impact can only be speculated. For example, there are
various opinions in the specialist literature about whether jobs should disappear and in
which sectors this could be the case. The subsequent discussion focussed superficially on
labor disputes in the areaCrowdsourcing, or how  Clickworker can be effectively organized
. In another working group, inclined comrades deliberated on solidarity with the
Federation of Northern Syria.
