Dear friends,
Because I'm intersex, I was threatened and attacked in my home country, El Salvador. I fled to the UK for safety… but fear followed me.
I was put in a house for male asylum seekers where I was attacked and sexually assaulted, just because I don't identify as male or female. My birth certificate is marked as "male," so there was nothing I could do about it.
This was exactly what I tried to leave behind.
A group called Micro Rainbow International (MRI) saved my life. They helped me move into a home they run exclusively for LGBTI asylum seekers.
They're getting so many requests for help from other LGBTI asylum seekers, they had to open two new houses.
We need to get these houses ready for 10 other LGBTI asylum seekers to move in, and soon! Together with All Out members, we're raising money to pay for heating, electricity, furniture, blankets, and cover essential costs for travel and counselling.
Thankfully, MRI is working with the Home Office to make the asylum process safer for LGBTI people like me. However, this problem goes deep and we have a lot of work ahead of us.
All Out is a movement of people who can move mountains, just €5 at a time. If every All Out member donated that much, so many LGBTI lives would be completely transformed. I think that's worth the price of a couple of coffees!
Thanks to MRI, I have a real future ahead of me. For the first time in my life, fear hasn't followed me. I'm studying full-time at London University and I just moved into my own place.
With your help, at least 10 other LGBTI asylum seekers will have the same chance at a new, safe life. But we only have until the end of the month to get over 1,000 All Out members to donate.
Thanks for going All Out,
Kaira*
*I'm not using my real name here for my own safety.
