Dear friends,
Hana and I are proud and happy mothers. Our daughter Hermína is the sunshine of our lives. But the law here in the Czech Republic says our family doesn't exist.
One day, we had to go to the hospital with Hermína and they asked me for the name of the father. When I told them she had a second mother, they looked at me as if I had told them a joke. Legally, Hana is no more than a "stranger" to our little daughter.
All we want is to be treated equally, and we're closer than ever to achieving it: in a few weeks, our Parliament will start debating if same-sex couples should have the right to get married.
It will be a close vote. About half of the Members of Parliament are against it. We need your help to tip the balance and get those who are undecided to vote for equality.
For years, activists at the Jsme fér ("We are fair") campaign have worked hard to get this discussion started in Parliament – and we did it!
But the hardest part comes now: anti-gay politicians are mobilising and have already launched a counter-offensive to block marriage equality.
Thanks for going All Out,
Adéla
