Dear friends,
39-year-old Lammie has been in deep mourning ever since she lost her partner, Kinkel, last month. But instead of sending the severely depressed elephant to a nearby wildlife sanctuary, the Johannesburg Zoo has decided to buy another elephant to keep Lammie company.
Elephants mourn the death of a loved one in a similar way that we mourn the loss of our friends and family. In the wild, the close knit herd helps the grieving elephant heal. But a lone elephant in captivity may never get over the trauma of loss. That is why it is so important to get Lammie out of the zoo and into a sanctuary.
An animal welfare organization has already committed to paying all of Lammie's relocation costs, and a wildlife sanctuary has offered her a spot at their facility. If the Johannesburg Zoo releases the poor, grieving elephant, she will be able to roam free and bond with a herd. And she'll never be forced to interact with humans ever again.
Next week, animal welfare activists will deliver this petition during a meeting with the Johannesburg City Council. So please sign now to support the activists' efforts to get authorization for Lammie's relocation to a wildlife sanctuary.
Thank you,
