The world and Latin American situation are expressing elements of a new period marked by
the deepening of the interference of US imperialism at all levels. At the commercial
level, Yankee arrogance has been provoking China's reaction in an unprecedented import
tariff war. This dispute between the two most important capitalist powers on the planet,
beyond the change of trading partners, represents an abrupt turn towards imperialist
protectionism that only benefits the bourgeoisies of both countries. ---- In this sense,
Latin America does not escape as a scenario of dispute. The latest events show the return
of the US as a gendarme of its "backyard" both at the geopolitical and military levels as
well as at the economic level. A run of docile and obedient leaders are essential pieces
in this strategy for the region. The local elites are not only opening the door wide to
the IMF and other usurers, but also to the main North American industrial, commercial and
financial monopolies. The main objective is to close the influence of China in the region,
drive away Russia and regain lost hegemony.
Two other relevant elements that we must mention have to do with the imperial plans that
reinforce the extractivist matrix of the region and the designation of Argentina as the
headquarters of the G20 this year, in order to accentuate the commitment to the
continental neoliberal agenda. At the geopolitical level, an important objective outlined
by the US has to do, not only with precipitating the fall of the wayward governments in
the region
-as are the cases of Venezuela and Bolivia-, but fundamentally with generating the idea of
instability to militarize the territory and discipline the popular resistance that is
being generated in rejection of the policies of adjustment, hunger and greater
indebtedness throughout the continent.
In this order, after momentarily ruling out the invasion of Marines into Venezuela, Trump
is with his regional allies openly promoting a military coup in that country, as happened
at the last bilateral summit with President Duque (at the same time as Colombia murdered
the number 159 social activist so far this year).
However, this "police state of adjustment" in the continent (as our comrades of the CAB
called it) has been generating numerous expressions of widespread popular resistance. In
Brazil, the savage adjustment of Temer, an old ally of the PT, and the dangerous advance
of the neo-fascist right embodied in Bolsonaro, various organizational coordinations have
been opposing important mobilizations, such as that of women on 29 September.
In recent months there have been major strikes in Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua (in
addition to Argentina) in rejection of the implementation of IMF policies. In the latter
case with brutal repressions leaving many dead. Slowly we can observe how episodes of
resistance in the region have been constituting the neoliberal outpost. The challenge for
Latin American popular organizations will be, in addition to the scope of mass, to build
greater levels of unity, solidarity and independence of the oppressed class, away from the
electoral dynamics and the institutionalization of struggles. Given this situation, the
Latin American coordination of autonomous popular organizations as an anti-imperialist,
anti-capitalist and anti-statist expression is imposed as strategic.

THE CCL NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT! ---- Original article:
https://culturalibertaria.blogspot.com/2018/11/the-ccl-needs-your-support.html ----
Support the crowdfunding campaign: ---- https://ppl.com.pt/causas/cclThe Centro de Cultura
Libertária, an anarchist association with 44 years of activity in Cacilhas-Almada,
Portugal, is again threatened. The continued pressure of the real estate business, the
change in the rental law and the gentrification that forces the departure of residents
from the central spaces of cities, the destruction of non-profit spaces or the closure of
neighborhood stores, now also touches the CCL. ---- What is happening? ---- This is not
the first time that the CCL's permanence in its historic headquarters has been called into
question.
Between 2009 and 2011 the Centro de Cultura Libertária resisted an eviction procedure
initiated by the landlord. Only the solidarity of many collectives and individuals here
and beyond allowed us to face the costs of the judicial process, which led to two trials
and one appeal. In the end, we reached a rent increase agreement that allowed us to
continue in the space without changes in the duration of the contract.
However, in 2014, as a result of the changes in the rent law in favor of property owners'
interests, the CCL contract duration was set at five years. At the end of 2018, we have
reached the point where, as has happened to thousands of tenants, the continuation of the
rent of our space will be at the mercy of the owner's will and the conditions that he
wants to impose on us.
Why support the CCL?
The CCL is an anarchist cultural centre founded in 1974 by old libertarian militants who
resisted the dictatorship, occupying since then the space rented at number 121 Rua Candido
dos Reis, in Cacilhas-Almada. The Center has a unique library and archive in Portugal,
with documents produced over the last hundred years, as well as a bookshop promoting
libertarian culture. It has been a fundamental space for anarchism in Portugal, welcoming
successive generations of libertarians. During its existence, the Center hosted numerous
activities, such as debates, meetings, reading circles, video sessions, workshops, dinners
and various learning workshops, and served as home to many libertarian groups and
collectives. Different publications came out of the space, such as the Voz Anarquista in
the 1970s, Antithesis in the 1980s, the Anarchist Information Bulletin in the 1990s, and
Húmus magazine in the first decade of this century.
As an anarchist association, the functioning of the CCL's internal organisation is
horizontal and is based on the assembly of its members, where decisions are made and the
tasks inherent to the life of the association are distributed. Participation in the CCL is
always voluntary, unpaid and non-profit. The only sources of funding are membership fees,
the bookstore, dinners and solidarity donations.
What future for the CCL?
We do not want the Centro de Cultura Libertária to end! We want it to continue to exist as
an active libertarian association for many years!
But at the moment the future of the CCL is open: it can remain in the same space, paying a
much higher rent, or move to a new space, where we would try to have better conditions for
our activities, but where expenses will also be higher.
In both cases, and given the conditions imposed by the current housing market bubble, we
know that we will need financial means that we do not have. For this reason, we will start
a fundraising campaign, which will include crowdfunding, concerts, dinners and other
initiatives.
We count on your solidarity support so that together we can guarantee a future for the CCL.

Can the situation of the proletariat be improved by the eviction of part of the
proletariat ? This is the theory of the " club " promoted by the extreme right. At the
approach of European elections whose campaign is already announced nauseating (Salvini,
Aquarius, etc.), we publish an extract from the book Temps Obscurs , with the agreement of
the authors. ---- To understand the mass audience that xenophobic parties may have, we
must consider that this attraction is not based solely on identity bases, defending a "
fragile identity ", that of French, against the threat represented by the " other
Especially Muslim. It is based mainly on the translation into economic terms of this
theory: if some of the proletarians (from immigration) are undesirable, exclude them would
be a way to economically upgrade the daily lives of " nationals ". This economic
proposition is the extreme right's way of addressing the class interests of its
constituents. Moreover, this proposal to purge the proletariat makes it possible to
propose radical changes, but without attacking the interests of the possessing class.
What do we mean when we say that the extreme right wants to get rid of a whole section of
the proletariat ? To understand it, one must refer to the economic theory of the " club
", theorized by Buchanan in 1965. This theory states that to benefit from a good in a
given group, such as a golf club, it is necessary that it There are not too many members
to take advantage of it, which would make it an optimal benefit. In the opposite case, the
infrastructures are too congested and the quality of the service decreases.
A large VIP lounge of French nationality
In a context of economic crisis that has been hidden since the 1970s and which has
worsened particularly since the 2008 crisis, the extreme right is defending a " golf
club theory " applied to the national economy. If there is unemployment, Social Security
deficits, pension reforms, wage cuts, it is not because of capitalism, its permanent state
of crisis and the attacks of the bourgeoisie for 30 years , but indeed because of a golf
club effect : there would be too many proletarians !
This theory sees France as a gigantic golf club or condominium. In order to be able to
benefit serenely, access should be restricted by making it a sort of " private circle ".
According to this vision of the world, health insurance, unemployment benefits, family
allowances, but also public jobs and even all jobs would be in some ways reserved for
members of a large VIP lounge, whose owners French nationality would be the members.
Given the deterioration of the labor market, the effects of the crisis that has worsened
since 2008, chronic deficits in social security and the state, the solution would simply
be to transfer a certain number of club members to find an " optimal " operation.
This is where the racism, the stigmatization of Islam and the " assisted " come into
play. Racism is most often perceived only from a moral point of view, which is a mistake.
Thus, according to the followers of the SOS Racisme discourse, the racism of the extreme
right would be inhuman, discriminating, dehumanizing, and explainable only by the fear of
the other.
Objective: to get rid of some of the people
On the contrary, this racism must above all be understood as a proposal also addressing
the economic interests of racists. Indeed, for the extreme right, the implementation of
this theory of the club would be mainly by attacking immigration, preferably "color".
If we look at the program of the FN, many of these measures are aimed at attacking the "
bad workers " whose behavior would harm the living conditions of all proletarians. As far
as the unemployed are concerned, the workfare measures would make the benefits lose to
those who " do not want to work ", playing on the myth of immigrants taking advantage
of Social Security, as well as the deactivation of the vital cards of " fraudsters ".
Similarly, the stop of immigration (family reunion, asylum ...) and the establishment of
the national preference is in economic terms to prevent the pressure on the wages of the "
French " - just like the national preference at hiring. Finally, the deletion of
the MEA, that is to say, the minimum medical care, completes this exclusion of the
national body of foreign unwanted proletarians, of another color or in an irregular situation.
This proposal is not based solely on " hatred of the other ". In very concrete terms,
she tells the proletarians, and especially the workers, that to restore good economic
living conditions, we must get rid of a part of the people !
It is this proposal to upgrade the status of proletarian by the exclusion of a good number
of " undesirable " workers, which, unfortunately, has made the success of the extreme
right among many voters, be they of the working class, employed or from the petty
bourgeoisie and the self-employed.

Even as other powers rise, the United States remains, by far, the only global imperialism.
We must denounce his criminal actions ... without hushing those of his competitors. ----
Imperialism is the combination of several dominations: military, therefore diplomatic ;
economic, so cultural. ---- In the past, this domination was translated by colonization.
Today, it allows the strongest states to impose unfair trade treaties on others, the
exploitation of their resources (mining, oil, forestry ...) at broken prices, or even
treaties of alliance legalizing the interference of the dominant country. ---- Thus, in
many countries of the world, when people revolt, in addition to confronting their state
and their capitalists, they must reckon with the interference of one or more imperialist
powers seeking to profit from events.
Read also: " In the face of competition, where is US imperialism ? " In Alternative
Libertaire in November 2018.
United States hegemony
Despite the rise in power in China and Russia, the military superiority of the United
States remains overwhelming.
In 2017, according to the Swedish institute SIPRI, they alone accounted for one-third of
world military spending, more than the sum of the seven other most-spending countries
(China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, India, France, United Kingdom, Japan ). The US military is
constantly deployed around the world, with approximately 800 bases and bases abroad.
This superpower allows the United States to try to impose its will by force whenever they
deem it useful. In twenty years, they led the war in Afghanistan (since 2001), the
occupation of Iraq (2003-2011), the bombings in Libya (2011), an intervention in Syria
(since 2014), to which we must add, since 2004, thousands of deadly drone strikes in
Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen.

Competition from other powers
Far behind, there are secondary imperialisms and competitors of the United States. Some,
like France and the United Kingdom, are its allies ; others, like Russia and China, are
its rivals.
It does not mean they are more virtuous. They too are instrumentalising weaker countries.
The French army thus intervenes regularly in Africa, " invited " by crumbling regimes to
make the policeman and protect, in passing, the interests of French capitalism.
China, more and more influential in Africa, wants to secure its trade routes and
interests, and is currently developing its army to confer, like the others, a capacity for
external intervention.
For its part, Russia, after conducting an atrocious colonial war in Chechnya (1994-2004),
crushed Georgia (2008), occupied part of Ukraine (since 2014) and was " invited " to
save sinking the criminal regime of Bashar el Assad in Syria (since 2015).
And everyone - Moscow, Washington, Paris, London, Beijing - is an accomplice of Israeli
colonialism.
" Up to the last drop ". Bashar al-Assad owes much to his Russian imperialist patron.
Drawing of Shrank
Revolutionaries alongside peoples
Between these imperialists, in competition for the control of the planetary resources, the
arms race is in full swing.
The peoples of the world have nothing to gain from this morbid competition, which is not
just about entertainment. It carries a permanent risk of skidding war, and it must be
denounced without weakening.
In the colonized, dominated countries, our solidarity goes to the political forces that
fight an emancipation at the same time national and social
against their State, their dictator, their colonizer ;
despite the imperialists who want to either crush them or manipulate them.
With the independence of Algeria yesterday, from Kanaky today ; with the South American
anti-fascist guerrillas in the 1970s ; with persecuted trade unionists in Eastern
countries in the 1980s ; with the Palestinian left and the Kurdish left today in the
Middle East.
The French state deploys its troops in Africa (here, in the Sahel) primarily to preserve
its "square".

Last week riders from DeliverUnion joined couriers from 31 other European collectives and
unions from 12 countries in Brussels to share common strategies and to found the
Transnational Courier Federation! It was really exciting to meet and learn from so many
other riders who are organising under platform companies such as Deliveroo, UberEats and
Foodora, and also couriers who have started their own cooperative delivery companies. ----
"These companies operate on a transnational level, so we need to resist them on a
transnational level." (IWW Courier Network member) ---- Since 2016 riders for "gig
economy" platforms have been organising for better working conditions across Europe and
beyond to Hong Kong, Indonesia, Argentina and Australia, grabbing media headlines with
their demonstrations and strikes.
Their story is one of David and Goliath; precarious and disposable workers standing up to
billion dollar companies. They have no fixed workplace and self employed couriers have no
worker protections, and are denied the right to freedom of association. So how do they
manage to organise? This has become somewhat of an obsession of academics and journalists,
but the answer is arguably quite simply. They network, meet up, strategise and take
collective action.
And that's what couriers from 31 different collectives and unions did in October 2018 when
they met for the biggest ever international couriers congress in Brussels. Couriers from
France, Italy, Finland, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Austria,
Switzerland and Belgium came together for two days to discuss common ideas and strategies
and founded the Transnational Courier Federation.
Most of the riders have been organising under platform companies such as Deliveroo,
UberEats and Foodora, while others have started their own delivery companies with
CoopCycle or developed cooperative apps such as Mensakas. Some are members of works
councils, others are organised in independent collectives. But one thing is clear; this is
the beginning of a more unified transnational courier movement organising against
precarious working conditions.
"We hope that we can in the future act transnationally...and act also across the service
and food industry. Because it's not just us... its about precarious workers in general and
how work in society is organised" explained a member of Justice4Couriers from Finland who
was at the meeting.
This is the beginning of a more unified transnational courier movement organising against
precarious work, and we are proud to be part of it.
All power to the Transnational Courier Federation!

Veteran Tariq Khan reflects on the hollow legacy of Veterans Day and connects the history
of November 11 to remembering those who fought for a better world. ---- By Tariq Khan and
other BRRN members ---- On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of
1918, the working class people who made up the rank-and-file of the world's most deadly
militaries of the era, ceased firing at each other. This armistice unofficially ended the
"war to end all wars." And in several nations, November 11 became Armistice Day; a solemn
day to reflect on the murderous futility of militarism, and to commit to peace. A
tradition was born of observing a moment of silence at 11:00 am on November 11. To this
day some still uphold this tradition.
But the notion of a war to end war was always a lie. As long as there is the rule of
capital, as long as there is empire, as long as there is colonization, as long as there is
racial domination, as long as there is patriarchy, as long as there is the state - there
is war. After a second, larger, more technologically advanced war to end wars, as the U.S.
entered a period of constant war, of proxy war, of secret war, of Cold War, the President
of U.S. Empire Dwight Eisenhower changed Armistice Day, a solemn day of peace, to Veterans
Day, a day to glorify militarism - not to be confused with Memorial Day or Armed Forces
Day, which are likewise days the U.S. government has appointed to mystify the public's
mind with patriotic militaristic lies.
So here we are on November 11th.
November 11th. In 1831, Black people across Southampton County, Virginia, rebelled against
slavery. Led by Nat Turner, the rebels walked silently from one slave labor camp to
another, killing enslavers and freeing enslaved people along the way. The state and
ordinary white society responded with murderous cruelty to uphold white supremacy and
slavery. White vigilantes extrajudicially tortured and murdered some 120 Black people,
regardless of involvement in the rebellion. The state executed some 55 Black people
suspected of involvement with the rebellion. On November 11, 1831, in Jerusalem, Virginia,
the state hanged Nat Turner, then flayed his body and beheaded him, to terrorize other
Black people into submission. Through this kind of sadistic, ritualistic, group cruelty
against Black people in Virginia, white people reestablished white domination in the
region. November 11th.
November 11th. In 1886, exploited and abused industrial workers across the United States
called for a general strike for the eight-hour day. At the McCormick plant in Chicago, the
company locked out the union members and hired scabs to replace them. Police escorted the
scabs to the plant, and when the workers moved to block the scabs from crossing the line,
police shot two of them to death, at least two others died later from the wounds. The most
influential labor organizers in Chicago at the time were anarchists affiliated with the
International Working People's Association. In response the anarchists held a mass meeting
at Haymarket Square to protest the violence of the police. Without provocation, the police
advanced against the crowd to violently break up the meeting. Someone threw a handmade
bomb at the police, killing one officer. The police responded by firing indiscriminately;
so indiscriminately that many of their shots hit other officers. Without evidence, police
charged eight anarchist labor organizers for throwing the bomb, some of the accused
anarchists were not even present at the meeting. The judge made it clear that even if they
were not guilty of throwing the bomb, they were guilty of that most egregious crime
against capital: organizing labor. The Haymarket Trial has since become famous globally as
one of the great sham trials of U.S. history. Five defendants ended up sentenced to death:
Louis Lingg, George Engel, Adolph Fischer, Albert Parsons, and August Spies. Lingg
committed suicide in his cell. November 11, 1886, the state hanged Engel, Fischer,
Parsons, and Spies. August Spies shouted, "The day will come when our silence will be more
powerful than the voices you are strangling today!" Engel and Fischer shouted, "Hurrah for
anarchy!" Albert Parsons shouted, "Let the voice of the people be heard! O-", and the
executioner sprung the trap. November 11th.
November 11th. In 1919, a patriotic gang of American Legion members attacked an Industrial
Workers of the World union hall. During the celebrations of Armistice day in Centralia
Washington, the local American Legion chapter (A far right-wing U.S. veterans
organization) Stormed the town's IWW union hall. This was part of an escalating pattern of
wanton violence by the bosses and the state to undermine the efforts of the IWW to
organize lumber workers and exactly a year after a similar raid during the Armistice Day
celebrations of 1918 had destroyed their previous hall. This time IWW members resisted. In
a shootout with the Legion six were killed but the hall was eventually stormed by the
police with all inside arrested. During the shootout Wesley Everest, an IWW member, lumber
worker, and draftee who served much of his time in military prison for refusing to salute
the flag, fled from the back of the building. He was soon swarmed by the legion. He killed
one assailant but was then beaten, including in the face with rifle butts, and dragged
through the streets to the city jail where he was left on the floor without treatment. In
the middle of the night the police returned him to the reactionary mob who lynched him and
shot him at the town bridge. The remaining prisoners were tortured by the police as the
mob outside called for their deaths. The police later retrieved Everest's dead body and
returned it to the jail, in full view of the other Wobblies in the jail, with the noose
still around his neck, to terrorize them. Seven IWW members were sentenced to prison terms
of up to 40 years for the shootout but none of those who participated in the lynching were
even tried, in spite of the fact that the members of the lynch mob were well-known to the
public, and even bragged about it. The lynching of Wesley Everest makes the alliance
between the state, capital, and murderous reactionaries abundantly clear. November 11th.
So here we are at another November 11th, with a white nationalist head of state massing
troops at the already hyper-militarized border as a political ploy to intimidate asylum
seekers, and we're supposed to celebrate militarism: thank the veterans of U.S. invasions
and occupations for their "service" to this blood-stained empire. Veterans Day is a
patriotic erasure of state violence and people's struggle. Rather than celebrate
militarism, take moment this November 11 to remember the martyrs of the social revolution:
Nat Turner, Louis Lingg, Albert Parsons, August Spies, George Engel, Adolph Fischer,
Wesley Everest, and all those whose lives have been stolen by the violence of the state
and reactionary vigilantes. Hurrah for anarchy!
