BREAKING - We will update this story as more information is known. ---- BOSTON - On
Sunday, November 18, a small group of fascists attempted to enter, disrupt and intimidate
attendees of the Boston Anarchist Bookfair but were quickly pushed out by attendees. The
group of five to six men who wore matching clothing and face masks attempted to enter the
bookfair at approximately 4pm and began chanting anti-immigration slogans. One of the
chants was "Blood and Soil," which was a key slogan of the German Nazi party. The
individuals are presumed to be members of the fascist organization Patriot Front, which
uses fascist and Nazi symbolism, and which attempted a similar foiled effort to storm the
Houston Anarchist Bookfair in September 2017.
Within minutes of the group entering, attendees and organizers quickly surrounded the
fascists, began engaging them and chanting "Nazis out! Nazis out!" Never making it more
than ten feet past the entrance and not entering the actual bookfair space itself, the
entire confrontation lasted less than ten minutes as the group quickly backed down and
made an exit. No physical altercations were known to have occurred.
Patriot Front, is a splinter group of American Vanguard which collapsed in the wake of the
2017 Charlottesville "Unite the Right" rally. In the aftermath of the protest it was
revealed that 20 year old James Alex Fields Jr., who murdered Heather Heyer and injured
dozens of others by driving a car at high speed into a group of counter protesters,
marched together with American Vanguard during the protest. Since then the group has
worked to rebrand their fascist politics under the guise of patriotism and focuses on
anonymous flyering and propagandistic attempts to intimidate left groups and social
movements, such as several members vandalizing an "Occupy ICE" encampment in San Antonio,
Texas in August.
The incident is an important reminder that organized security preparations and quick
reactions are essential to protect the safety of our movements and organizations.

This month we discussed a number of different anarcha-feminist texts ranging from the
early 20th century to modern day perspectives from the Kurdish feminist movement. As the
group was so large, we split off into two smaller groups which each held their own
discussions. Here are some reflections from each group. ---- Group 1 ---- We started the
discussion with questions about what different types of ‘feminisms' there are and how
anarchism ideally already includes a class conscious feminism; in contrast to liberal
feminism limited to questions of the economic equality of privileged men and women, and
radical feminism, focussing on patriarchy and gender norms. It seemed important to stress
the intersectional approach of anarcha feminism (e.g. including questions of class and
race) since this allows the inclusion of e.g. working class women into the traditionally
middle class efforts of emancipation. We spoke about attempts to align all feminisms, to
take out the best aspects of all struggles and the possibility of a shared movement -
however, capitalism got in the way of that! The main issue here was that women struggling
to simply become like male oppressors (as mentioned in one of the texts, where the
liberated housewife is allowed to go to work now and subsequently hires a low paid migrant
cleaner) are not feminists by our definition. The (neo)liberal and capitalist celebration
of women, which focusses on the consumption of products that then define your identity is
as questionable to anarchists as is the ‘all women are feminists' approach that leads to
the likes of Hilary Clinton calling on female solidarity, while implementing policies
against women's interests.
The suggestion that feminism can be like a lens through which we as anarchists look at
issues of gender equality and the observation that men also suffer from patriarchal
structures lead us to discuss anarchist practice with a feminist focus. In general it
seems to be the case that looking at both anarchism and feminism through each other's
viewpoint is most beneficial when it comes to any philosophy and subsequent action.
Feminism with anarchism and an intersectional approach, as discussed in the texts by Audre
Lorde and bell hooks, is necessary, otherwise it becomes too focussed on replicating male
structures of domination with women - in an ideal world, women don't become like men, but
everyone changes. We found that Dilar Dirik's discussion of socialist patriarchy
especially captured problems of relations between the sexes in a politically sound
environment - e.g. the antifascist who beats up his wife.
Looking at feminist developments in tbe UK we spoke about propaganda and stereotypes of
women ‘in charge' of relationships/a family, that are merely caricatures laughing about
the limited power of women by assigning being in charge of the household to them.
This lead to a more general question of stereotyping women and feminists, e.g. in the 60s
and 70s where the ‘bra burning' feminist trope/propaganda spread a message of feminist
antifemininity - at a time where women demanding equality at the workplace/access to
university was the real problem, demands too antifeminine for some.
The idea of antifemininity seems still present today, also within feminism, which led us
back to a critique of capitalism and the question on how feminine qualities are defined,
also in relation to men and their experience of not conforming to masculine clichés.
With many more questions discussed, e.g. in relation to religion, faith, rightwing
feminism, institutions in general and Emma Goldman's ‘external and internal tyrants'
anarcha feminism seems to be a topic situated right in the middle if anarchist thought,
impossible to disconnect from questions of capitalism, class, race and hierarchical
structures and a highly important discussion to hold.
Group 2
What are the differences between liberal, radical and anarcha-feminism? Liberal feminism
wants the benefits of capitalist exploitation to be open to women. As capitalism is based
on colonialism and hyper-exploitation of labour in LEDCs, this is always inherently
colonial- a woman in the UK can't become a capitalist without exploiting other women both
in the UK and in LEDCs. You can't be a feminist and a capitalist. Radical feminism seems
inward looking- viewing men as the enemy. The Dirik piece explicitly warns against a
retreat into women's only spaces- ultimately we want to change all of society not just
focus on ourselves. We need to learn more about different feminisms- Kuridish movement,
Zapatista etc.
Critiquing the feminist movement can be difficult as a man- although I can clearly see the
problems with liberal feminism it's not my place to tell feminists they're doing it wrong!
Although it is possible for men to understand the structural/economic aspects of feminism,
they are never going to understand the fear of walking down a street at night or the
internalisation of patriarchy. Men are conditioned to expect their voices to be heard
whereas women are trained to be passive rather than active in social movements. Capitalism
characterises things which are valuable as masculine and things which aren't as feminine
and this is still reproduced in left spaces. This links to primitive accumulation and the
exclusion of women from paid labour to perform unpaid reproductive/domestic labour.
How do we make the anarchist movement more feminist? Valuing ‘feminine' skills within the
movement, not fetishizing violence, deprogramming of internalised ideas, events like this
where we discuss what anarchist feminism is to us.
How do we make the broader feminist movement more anarchist? Make feminism a threat again!
Critique problematic feminism e.g. state feminism in Saudi where ‘good' women can join the
army to oppress people next to their male comrades. ID politics has its uses as a
transitionary tool to educate people who are not aware of others' oppression but it is not
sustainable. The question is how do we increase knowledge/awareness in the movement whilst
recognising difference?
Our monthly reading group continues on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. The next topic witll
be ecology.

The 1973 revolt in the Polytechnic school against the military dictatorship was much more
than just a student turmoil and touched many more issues than opposition to the
dictatorial regime. It was a social revolt that surpassed the limits of a demanding
struggle, setting political issues that would always be important such as human freedom
and dignity, issues of social justice and equality. ---- The presence and action of the
anarchists in this rebellion, but also in all the events that followed in the
anniversaries of the Polytechnic uprising, determined to a significant extent the
development and the character of the anarchist struggle and the radical social-class
resistances in Greece.
For the movement, the November 17th 1973 uprising is not just an anniversary of memory and
honor. The struggle of the insurgents of the Polytechnic remains valid today, since its
freedom contests are still topical. We are still facing the state's violence and
repression against us, conquests and freedoms are still on state's target, the system
moves towards total control and totalitarianism.
This year's mobilization involved a crowd of people in all major cities. The collectives
participating in the Anarchist Political Organization carried out political intervention
in the three-day memorial and struggle organized in the places where the revolt of 1973
broke out (Polytechnic University of Athens and Thessaloniki, Patras University Branch
"Parartima"), and they also supported the demonstrations in the afternoon of November 17.
In Athens and Thessaloniki there were calls by anarchist assemblies of students. In
Patras, there was a call by the "libertarian form" of the university. In Athens, when the
very massive demonstration of the anarchist blocks reached its end, police forces, which
had a particularly challenging attitude, attacked without been provoked.
AGAINST THE "MYTH" OF DEMOCRACY THE INSURRECTION IS STILL ALIVE!
THE UPRISINGS OF THE PAST KEEP OPEN THE ROUTE FOR THE REVOLUTION OF TOMORROW!
ORGANIZATION AND STRUGGLE FOR THE SOCIAL REVOLUTION, FOR ANARCHY AND LIBERTARIAN COMMUNISM!

On 15/11, a tour was held against the Conference on Entrepreneurship, Growth and
Competitiveness "Thessalonikiki Summit ", which took place at the Vellidio Conference
Center. ---- Speakers at the conference were several representatives of the political and
economic elite, mainly of the Balkans (and not only), as well as representatives of
supranational organizations and imperialist formations. Among the main guests were the
prime minister of the country, A. Tsipras, as well as the leader of the main opposition K.
Mitsotakis. That is, the two main political representatives of local and international
capital, both civilian politicians of rabid class absolution. ---- The course started from
Kamara and moved to the Egnatia, Agia Sophia, Tsimiski streets, where it headed for the
Vellidio Conference Center. Access to the building was totally blocked by MATs and
platoons. The course continued from Aggelaki and was completed in Kamara. The
anti-authoritarian block of the process was called by the Eleftherial Initiative of
Thessaloniki, the College of Anarchists from the Eastern and the Free Social Space School.
The blockade was also supported by other comrades and comrades. The process was framed by
about 250 people and the block of about 100.
At the end of the course, the student clubs claimed and eventually succeeded in breaking
the leg of the cops who cut access to the Polytechnic, on the Ancients, where the clubs
had a planned event.
Some of the slogans shouting along the way:

THE DAY OF ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN SIGNS ---- RACE DAY FOR THE ERADICATION
OF THE WORLD OF PATRIARCH, STATE AND CAPITAL ---- November 25 is set by the UN as the day
to eradicate violence against women. It was established in 1991, following the demands of
women's organizations, almost 30 years later, when the three Mirabla sisters were
tortured, beaten and strangled to death on the orders of the dictator Trujillo of the
Dominican Republic. ---- The solemn establishment of such days can not hide the
innumerable examples of daily, brutal, institutional or otherwise, violence against women
and all those who are at the bottom of the social and class hierarchy. It is not distant,
in fact, the examples of the confusion and incarceration of HIV positive women in 2012 in
a period of zero tolerance for the state, the condemnation of the 22-year-old woman in the
adjoining Corinth who defended herself against her rapist, the encampment in thousands of
stackable camps immigrants and immigrants or the wild assassination of Zak Kostopoulos, a
community activist, seropositive and user, at noon in the center of Athens, in whose face
they were frantically rushed All those antisocial,

Patriarchy is a system of domination of women by men. Even for those who do not directly
experience this physical violence, no woman escapes everyday sexism. ---- All violence
against women, from street harassment to domestic violence, serves only one purpose: to
reinforce the domination of men over women. All this violence is the most visible and the
most terrible part of this domination. They are there to remind women that they are
dominated. All this violence is part of a system, that is to say, they are not isolated,
they are not independent of each other. All this violence is interconnected and works
together. The system in which they return is the patriarchal system.
Patriarchy is a system of domination of women by men. It is a set of laws, rules,
traditions, imposed or inculcated habits that serve to preserve the dominant position of
men in society. Women's struggles have made it possible to name and challenge patriarchy
but, despite the advances, this system remains firmly anchored and men continue to enjoy it.
Some figures: all working time combined, men earn 23.5% more than women ; on average,
women spend 3 hours 26 per day on domestic tasks, compared with 2 hours for men ; there
are only 27% women in the National Assembly and 25% in the Senate ; 78% of part-time
employees are women.
Rape, an unpunished crime
How can such an inegalitarian system continue to exist ? Because laws, court decisions,
media discourses, customs, etc. continue to guarantee the domination of men. And when all
this is not enough, violence against women is the last resort and tool men have to assert
their domination. There is a real tolerance for this violence, even though there is still
too little change in the seriousness of the convictions and the increase in complaints.
The judicial system, for example, guarantees impunity to the aggressors. The " Context
of sexuality in France " survey conducted by Inserm and INED reveals that 20.4% of women
aged between 18 and 69 have suffered violence. during their lifetime. Similarly, the State
estimates each year that 84,000 women aged 18 to 75 are victims of rape in France.
Nevertheless in 2014, only 5,558 complaints were filed and of these, only 1318 resulted in
a conviction. Such figures show that rape is an unpunished crime.
But even for those who do not directly suffer this physical violence, no woman escapes
everyday sexism. The threat of potential physical violence hangs over all women on the
street or at home. No woman is immune to an abusive partner, unwanted sexual intercourse,
sexual harassment at work, insults or touching in public spaces and these perpetual
threats emancipation, the ability to take risks and to have confidence in oneself. Women
must collectively emancipate themselves from this fear and implement the necessary means
to guarantee their safety.
What are the interests of men in patriarchy ? At work, women serve as an adjustment
variable for bosses (who are mostly men) and are therefore more often part-time or on
precarious contracts. The male employees also benefit from the situation since the female
employees will progress less quickly and will do less shade. At home, men benefit from
women's free domestic work (childcare, cleaning, cooking). They can also enjoy free sexual
services in the name of an alleged marital duty. In society, men feel all-powerful in the
public space (in the street, on the terrace of cafes, etc.) and they completely dominate
the political social life, whether in the institutions (on the benches of the Senate or
the National Assembly) or in the media.
Since violence against women is part of a system, the only way to really stop it is to
dynamize this system, that is, to blow up everything that keeps up patriarchy: the sexual
norms. , moral norms, family norms, the precariousness imposed by capitalism ... In the
meantime, we can of course reduce this violence. And you have to do it. But we must keep
in mind that the fight will not stop until the foundations of the patriarchate have been
destroyed.
It is a daily struggle in which the weapons are solidarity and sorority.
