Supreme Court: here we come 🇧🇷

Hello friends, – In just 48 hours, Brazil's Supreme Court will decide: should discrimination against LGBT+ people be a crime in the country? With a newly elected president who says he "would rather have a dead son, than a gay one" and that "gay children can be straightened with some beating", that decision is more critical than ever. Tomorrow we have a meeting at the Supreme Court to deliver our signatures and ask them to protect LGBT+ Brazilians. More than 163,000 people have already signed the petition. Hello friends, Last weekend, Brazil elected Jair Bolsonaro as our next President. This is a man who once said he "would rather have a dead son, than a gay one." During the election, Bolsonaro's supporters started to feel empowered by the hate and division promoted by his campaign. Violence against LGBT+ people and other minorities escalated across the country. Two women were murdered and one beaten, just for being trans. A man was murdered in his apartment for being gay. Many others were verbally and physically attacked by Bolsonaro supporters. But before Bolsonaro takes office in January, we have a major opportunity to make it much harder for this hate to harm LGBT+ Brazilians. In less than 2 weeks, Brazil's Supreme Court will decide if discrimination against LGBT+ people should be a crime in the country. Right now, we have no legal protection against hate crimes. That's why we're mobilising people in and outside of Brazil to pressure the Supreme Court to do the right thing. Will you sign the All Out Brazil petition and call on our Supreme Court to protect LGBT+ Brazilians? Our partners will take our signatures to the Court on the day of the vote. The Supreme Court will determine if Congress must approve a law to protect LGBT+ Brazilians from discrimination. They will also decide if sexual orientation and gender identity should be included in the existing law that prohibits discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, and religion. The Supreme Court will play a decisive role in protecting LGBT+ Brazilians from the violence and hate we know awaits us once Bolsonaro takes office, but we need your help to ask them to do the right thing.
