Sign Now Dear friends, After enduring years of violence, abuse, drugging and rape from her former husband, 28 year old Nara Walker has beensentenced to 15 months in jail after a failed appeal. Nara was arrested in Reykjavík, Iceland, in 2017 after her husband pinned her down and forced his tongue in her mouth.In response, she bit off the end of it. That evening, Nara suffered from internal bruising, a fractured rib, a sprained spine and external bruising. In a statement she said: "I was still finding it difficult to breathe and he forced his tongue into my mouth. I reacted without thought or intent." Over the last 15 months, Nara has made quite an effort via numerous appeals to have her evidence against her abuser taken seriously, with the Icelandic courts ignoring all proof of prior abuse, rape and violence. This includes medical reports, witness statements, photographic and written evidence and most alarmingly — statements under oath admitting to such actions by the abuser himself. Iceland is seen worldwide as a leader in equal rights, but it is fair to say this case highlights the real truth concerning many women's domestic violence cases across Iceland and undoubtably – the world.
