Ban live export of animals from the UK

Calves and sheep are exported only to be viciously slaughtered abroad in ways that would be illegal in the UK. Ban this cruel loophole!

Dear friends,
Young calves and sheep, reared in the UK, are being packed into overcrowded lorries, and sent on long uncomfortable journeys. The reason? They will be taken to countries such as Spain, where they will be killed in such viciously cruel ways that these methods of ritual slaughter are illegal in the UK.
What is the point of banning the killing of animals without stunning in the UK, if we simply ship animals abroad to countries that allow this inhumane treatment?
Not only is their final fate horrific, but many are injured on the journey, some even dying from exhaustion, overheating or dehydration. Legally, they should be travelling for a maximum of nine hours before a 24 hour break, but the boat that takes them from Ramsgate to Calais has been seen to take up to 14 hours. This has to stop.
Thank you,

P.S. P&O Ferries banned the export of animals destined for consumption, but another company has picked up the trade. Now we need the port authorities to ban all live exports.
