In 1918 Melekess was an industrial city of about 16,000 inhabitants in the Volga region. 
The local economy was based on wood processing and agricultural crops. See pictures of how

In May 1918, as a result of the rebellion of the Czech Legion, a military force originally 
created by the Tsarist government, the city was suddenly in a state of war. A battle was 
held in Melekess on 16-18 July between Czechs and Reds under the leadership of Navy Andrey 
Polypanov, who had two armored trains available. Polypanov, who only struggled a few 
months earlier with anarchist missions in Ukraine, had to withdraw, leaving the city to 
the invaders. The new regime captured and immediately executed 12 citizens linked to the 
Soviet government. A monument to these twelve still exists today, but only five of them 
have been identified. Melekess was recovered by the Reds on October 6, 1918,

Melekess today is known as Dimitrovgrad. It was named by the Bulgarian Communist Georgi 
Dimitrov. For some months in 1919 it was named Luxemburg, but the name was not established.

Women

's socialization In early March 1918, an angry mob of women flooded the anarchist club in

According to a local Soviet newspaper, anarchists "on their own initiative" decided that 
it would be "dangerous and useless" to keep such a fierce counter-revolutionary in a jail 
and execute it on the ground. The anarchists then issued a proclamation where they 
criticized Uravov for publishing his defamatory, sexist and pornographic decree,

Uravov's decree was just one of many such challenges that were committed or encouraged by 
the White Movement during the Russian Civil War. These decrees were adopted by the 
bourgeoisie to defame revolutionary Russia and were considered authentic by many prominent
