They closed the zoo without rehoming the animals

Dear friends,
Wild animals should never be kept in zoos. They were born with all the instincts they need to help them survive and thrive in the wild. Despite that fact, there are still hundreds of thousands of non-domesticated animals still living in zoos today.
Once in captivity, however, animals are no longer truly self-sufficient and often can't be returned to the wild. That's why when zoos close, they must first rehome all their animals, ideally to sanctuaries where they can live out more natural, healthy and happy lives. But some zoos care so little about their animals that they don't bother finding them new homes before closing up. In fact, that's exactly what happened at Parque Zoologico Prudencio Nvarro in Spain.
After years of complaints from concerned citizens, the zoo finally stopped even pretending to care for its critters and closed shop. This was supposed to be good news for the animal activists that fought hard for this victory, but now the lions, tigers, and bears have nowhere to go, with no dedicated caretaker. They would have already starved to death if some unknown good Samaritans hadn't taken up giving the animals food and water. Of course, these heroes can only do so much and the responsible party — the zookeepers — are long gone.
According to reports, the animals are festering in their own feces and urine. Their water moats are dirty and their overall conditions are horrific. Additionally, since park staff has left, the security at the park has dwindled down to practically nothing. Dangerous animals could easily escape, putting both people and other zoo animals at risk.
The clock is ticking for these animals. They need to be rehomed to accredited sanctuaries at once so they can get the care they need and finally have a life free from zoo captivity. Please help Care2 call on Spain's Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) to rescue the animals and find them sanctuaries today. Sign the petition.
Thank you,

P.S. This zoo closed and left their animals locked up to die slowly by starvation. Please sign on to ask Spain's nature protection agency to rescue them today!
