Exported Cows Are Dying in Sri Lanka. Urge Australia to Stop Live Animal Export Programs.

Dear friends,
After years of depending on powdered milk, the Sri Lankan government entered an agreement with Australia that would allow Sri Lankan farmers to purchase Australian "high-yielding, pregnant dairy cows," to increase the supply of locally produced milk.
But now, Sri Lankan farmers claim these cows — transported through an animal export company called Wellard — have been rapidly dying off. Specifically, up to 10 percent of the 5,000 cows shipped to Sri Lanka have died from illnesses or from their inability to adapt to the Sri Lankan climate.
Aside from the dairy industry being wracked with animal cruelty, this inhumane shipping deal has caused a great deal of suffering for not only the cows, but the farmers who have lost their source of income.
Animal export programs are inhumane and simply don't work. Please sign the petition and ask the Australian Government and Wellard to end stop shipping dairy cattle to Sri Lanka now.
Thank you,
P.S. Australian animal exports already have a terrible track record, killing tens of thousands of sheep by shipping them to Indonesia and Pakistan. There must be a better, more humane solution — demand Australia stop these live animal export programs.
